Ele projetou o duelo diante do Sport-PE.

West Brom journalist thinks Ismael sees Grant as a wide player

West Brom manager Valerien Ismael sees Karlan Grant as a wide player rather than a striker, journalist Luke Hatfield has told Football FanCast.

Grant was signed by former West Brom boss Slaven Bilic last year and was mostly used as a No.9 under the Croatian.

In the previous Premier League campaign, Grant made 12 appearances up front, managing just one goal.

The 23-year-old was much more prolific in his last Championship season, however, which bodes well for his new manager.

During the 2019/20 campaign, Grant managed to score 19 goals for former club Huddersfield Town before his move to The Hawthorns.

On what could be in store next for the Englishman, Hatfield of the Express & Star said:

“I think Bilic saw him when he was manager as a striker. I don’t think that’s the case under Ismael. I think Ismael very much sees him as a wide player

“I think he himself probably sees himself as a wide forward as well to be honest with you, as someone who can cut in off that left flank.”

All things considered, it is definitely something worth considering once the new season commences.

Ismael needs to try and get Grant firing again and if he can, it will obviously give West Brom’s promotion hopes a massive boost.

Gers make Veerman bid

According to Dutch outlet De Telegraaf, Glasgow Rangers have made a €4.5m (£3.8m) offer for Heerenveen midfielder Joey Veerman.

The Lowdown: Gers linked with Veerman, wants to leave

The Gers have been linked with a move for £7.65m-valued Veerman (Transfermarkt) in recent weeks and months, as have Serie A outfit Atalanta.

The midfielder has also already made it clear he is looking to depart the Eredivisie outfit this summer (nu.nl).

The Latest: Gers make offer

According to this latest report, the Gers have made their first move for 22-year-old Veerman.

It says the Ibrox outfit have made a bid of €4.5m (£3.8m), which is €1m (£850,000) less than what Atalanta have put on the table. Steven Gerrard is also said to be a big fan.

The Verdict: Making their move

Ross Wilson and co, it seems, are finally making their move for Veerman. It is a little surprising that this comes after the 55-time Scottish champions have already brought in one new midfielder in John Lundstram (rangers.co.uk), but with nine goals and 11 assists last term in all competitions (Transfermarkt), it is clear the Dutchman could offer plenty going forward.

The start of the season for the Gers is fast approaching, and they will be looking forward to getting started in the Champions League third qualifying round. The addition of Veerman would give Gerrard more confidence that his side would be able to reach the next stage of the competition.

In other news, Rangers fans were livid at this Club 1872 news.

Aston Villa plotting Tammy Abraham bid

Aston Villa are ready to spend up to £40m on Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham this summer, according to The Mirror.

The Lowdown: Abraham’s Villa connections

The 23-year-old knows Villa Park well following his loan spell there during the 2018/19 season. Abraham netted 26 times and registered three assists in 40 appearances under Dean Smith, helping Villa back into the top flight.

Villa’s assistant manager John Terry, himself a former Chelsea stalwart, shared his love for the Blues forward during his stay in the Midlands, describing the striker as ‘passionate’.

It seems as if a reunion under Smith and Terry could well be on the cards judging by the latest report from The Mirror.

The Latest: Recent links

The Mirror claim that Abraham isn’t in Thomas Tuchel’s Stamford Bridge plans and the Champions League holders are happy to let him leave over the coming months.

The report adds that the door is open for Villa and Smith, with the Blues expecting a bid imminently. A £40m deal would make Abraham the club’s record signing just weeks after they broke it to sign Emiliano Buendia from Norwich City.

Crystal Palace and West Ham are also keen on Abraham but a fee isn’t an issue for Villa’s owners NSWE, with or without Jack Grealish.

The Verdict: Wesley on the way out?

Should Villa make their move and sign Abraham, you’d expect that Wesley Moraes could be on his way out of the club.

The Brazilian, who cost Villa £22.5m in 2019, has had his injury struggles in England. The striker has made only 25 appearances for the club, featuring in just 16 minutes of Premier League action last season.

He was signed after Abraham returned to Chelsea, but could the latter’s potential return result in Wesley leaving for good? Reports in March suggested that Villa would listen to offers for the 24-year-old, so we could well see a reversal two years on.

Norwich Union League gets under way with a cracker

The Norwich Union League season opened with what will quite possibly be regarded as the match of the season even when September 22nd is reached

The Norwich Union League season opened with what will quite possibly be regarded as the match of the season even when September 22nd is reached. The bare statistic says that Yorkshire Phoenix won by one run against Somerset Sabres. What that conceals is that the home side were chasing a target of 308. Centuries for Darren Lehmann and Matthew Wood for the Yorkshiremen looked to be enough, but a brave reply from the home batsmen featuring 99 from Jamie Cox and 79 from Ian Blackwell so nearly got them to the target. Elsewhere, there were wins for Warwickshire Bears, Leicestershire Foxes, Derbyshire Scorpions, Hampshire Hawks and Surrey Lions.Ian Bell might not have lived up to expectations since returning from the National Academy, hence his name was rubbed out from the Test side into which it had earlier been pencilled. Nevertheless, he reminded the selectors that he can still bat with an innings of 72 for Warwickshire Bears against Durham Dynamos at Chester-le-Street. The Bears reached 207 for 7 in their 45 overs, more than enough to secure victory as the Dynamos lacked the power to reach more than 163 for nine to lose by 44 runs.Trevor Ward and Darren Stevens both scored 91 as Leicestershire Foxes posted 283 for five against Nottinghamshire Outlaws at Grace Road. They put on 185 for the second wicket, and did not take long about it. Stevens took just 74 balls with ten fours and a six. Ward took a little longer, but hit 13 fours and a six in his 95 ball innings before Michael Bevan weighed in with a swift 42 not out. Usman Afzaal managed 63 to top score for the Outlaws, but there was not enough support to prevent the Foxes getting home by 32 runs.In Division Two, the Sussex Sharks batsmen never got going against the Derbyshire Scorpions at Derby. As the Sharks sunk to 166 for eight in their 45 overs, there were some pretty tidy bowling figures, with the pick of them being Graeme Welch’s 9-2-45-3, although Dominic Cork conceded just 20 runs from his nine overs and took a wicket. Michael Di Venuto led the Scorpions’ reply with 84 as his side reached the target with four wickets and three overs in hand.Nic Pothas was brought into the Hampshire Hawks side to add some international experience to the wicket-keeper/batsman role, and obliged with 53 not out against Gloucestershire Gladiators. Derek Kenway reached 50 as well. In reply, Dimitri Mascarenhas took five for 27 as the Hawks won by 46 runs, despite Craig Spearman’s innings of 82.They say lightening never strikes twice in the same place, but having lost in the championship on Saturday, Lancashire Lightening were devoured at The Oval 24 hours later by Surrey Lions. Martin Bicknell took five for 26 in his nine overs and there were five catches for Alec Stewart as the northerners were skittled for just 68. The Londoners managed to lose four wickets in reaching the target inside 12 overs.

Portsmouth handed Robertson boost

A major update has emerged on Clark Robertson’s transfer plans which could be good news for Portsmouth’s pursuit of the defender.

What’s the talk?

According to The Daily Record, Rotherham centre-back Clark Robertson looks set to stay in England this summer despite interest from Aberdeen. The Scottish Premiership side attempted to bring him to the club, but the report claims that he wants to remain in England, with his contract at Rotherham expiring at the end of the month.

Portsmouth are said to have made an offer to the centre-back too, although it remains to be seen if they are the club Robertson wants to join. Danny Cowley has identified the defender as a target to bolster his squad ahead of the 2021/22 campaign.

Back in 2018, Rotherham boss Paul Warne labeled Robertson as a “strong” defender with a competitive edge. He told Rotherham’s official website:

“He’s a really good kid and he really wants to learn. He played a lot of games last year and the couple before that and I think he’ll fit in a treat. He can step in and play out from the back, which the league we’re going into will allow a little bit more and he’ll bring us a bit of calmness.

“I’ve known him for quite a while and he’s a left-sider, which is pretty unique. He can play and he was a huge part of the Blackpool team last year. He’s a good, strong, competitive centre half which fits in with what we’re looking for here.”

Cowley would love him

Cowley would love Robertson at Portsmouth. He is an experienced performer at Championship and League One level and could slot in seamlessly at Fratton Park, as he already knows how to handle getting promoted out of the third tier having done so with Rotherham.

Robertson could be a low-risk addition to Cowley’s side as he would not be coming in from a lower English division or a foreign team, thus needing time to adapt to the nature of League One.

Portsmouth are set due to lose Tom Naylor at the end of the month. The centre-back has signed a contract with Wigan and will join the Latics officially upon the expiry of his Portsmouth deal on June 30th. Naylor will leave a giant hole to fill in Cowley’s side, as he started all 46 of the club’s League One matches and averaged an impressive WhoScored rating of 6.99. This is where Robertson could come in to replace Naylor in the squad.

The £3.4k-per-week ace averaged a solid WhoScored rating of 6.86 when starting as a centre-back in the Championship for Rotherham last season. This suggests that he should be able to perform to a higher standard in League One as it is a lower standard of football in comparison to the Championship. Therefore, he could match – or even better – the performances of Naylor for Pompey in the 2020/21 campaign.

Cowley should love this update about the player wanting to stay in England as it increases his side’s chances of being able to sign an ideal replacement for the departing Naylor.

AND in other news, Portsmouth dealt major blow with “prolific” 10 G/A dynamo, Cowley will be devastated…

LFC fans react positively to Neuhaus update

A number of Liverpool fans have been reacting positively to an update on Florian Neuhaus, with the German thought to be the Reds’ Gini Wijnaldum replacement.

Wijnaldum’s time as a Liverpool has come to an end, with the Dutchman joining Paris Saint-Germain this summer.

The 30-year-old could leave a gaping void in the Reds’ midfield, with his consistency and availability so key to Jurgen Klopp’s side’s success in recent years.

The hope is that Liverpool bring in a replacement for Wijnaldum and Neuhaus has been constantly linked with a summer move to Anfield.

The midfielder is currently on Euro 2020 duty with Germany and AS claim that he remains Klopp’s chosen man to come in for the Netherlands international.

Neuhaus is likened to German legend Toni Kroos in the report, which can only bode well if the Reds end up getting their man.

West Ham fans on Irvine update

Many West Ham United fans have been left to bemoan an update on Alan Irvine as the club’s website confirmed that he has left his role as assistant manager.

The 62-year-old will now take on a new technical advisory position to assist David Moyes and his coaching staff for the 2021/22 term.

The website describes him as a ‘hugely respected figure’ and ‘one of the finest coaches in the English game, admired and respected by players and his peers in the coaching world’.

It is not just Moyes who had contributed to the great work on the pitch last season, with which the East London club managed a sixth-placed finish in the Premier League and therefore qualified for the UEFA Europa League, but Irvine as well played a big part, and so it will be a huge loss not to have him right on the touchline.

Although he is still working with the Hammers, several Irons supporters have been left to bemoan the Scotsman not being able to work alongside Moyes from the touchline during games.
