Juventus legend Pavel Nedved, ex-president Andrea Agnelli & Co facing years in prison over capital gains scandal as plea bargain decision set to be made

Juventus face a decisive moment in the Prisma investigation as former president Andrea Agnelli, vice-president Pavel Nedved, sporting director Fabio Paratici, and other top executives await a ruling on plea bargain requests tied to alleged frauds. If accepted, the agreements could bring suspended sentences, potentially closing one of the most consequential corporate and sporting scandals in Serie A history.

  • The Prisma investigation and plea bargain requests

The Prisma investigation, initiated in 2021, scrutinises Juventus’ financial dealings, including alleged fictitious capital gains, false corporate disclosures, and potential market manipulation tied to player transfers and loans. Former Juventus executives, including Agnelli, Nedved, Paratici, Cesare Gabasio, Stefano Cerrato and Maurizio Arrivabene, requested plea bargains in June. The requests outlined suspended sentences: Agnelli – one year and eight months, Nedved – one year and two months, Paratici – one year and six months, Gabasio and Cerrato – lesser terms, while Arrivabene seeks acquittal.

The ruling by Rome Court GUP Anna Maria Gavoni is expected on Monday, although reports indicate a possible short delay. The decision will determine whether the plea bargains are accepted.

The case and its impact on Juventus

The case led to Agnelli and Juventus’ entire board resigning in 2022. Juventus faced a 10-point penalty in the 2022-23 Serie A season and was removed by UEFA from the Conference League due to financial irregularities. The Prisma investigation has explored whether the club misled investors with invoices for non-existent transactions to show income and if supervisory bodies were obstructed.

Acceptance of the plea bargains could represent a final legal resolution for the club, allowing key figures like Agnelli to return to football administration after their sports-related bans expire.

  • The alleged offences against the former executives

The alleged offences include market manipulation, false corporate disclosures by a listed company, fraudulent filings, and obstruction of regulatory authorities. If accepted, the plea bargains would involve suspended sentences, closing a critical chapter in Juventus’ legal and financial history.

    The road ahead for Juventus

Juventus awaits the court’s decision, which could resolve the long-running legal battles tied to the investigation. Should the plea bargains be accepted, the club may stabilise its leadership structure.

The ruling will also set a precedent for financial governance and compliance in Italian football, emphasising the consequences of alleged corporate misconduct at one of Europe’s most storied clubs.

Celtic hold "fresh talks" to sign "really impressive" and versatile £5m ace

Celtic are now “ramping up their pursuit” of a “really impressive” player this summer, Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph has claimed.

Celtic "lack ambition" in transfer market

Time is running out for the Hoops to make more signings, and while they are again primed to win the Scottish Premiership title this season, new additions are still needed in the new week or so.

Brendan Rodgers hasn’t been overly happy with this summer at Parkhead, and now Celtic podcaster Paul John Dyke has echoed the thoughts of the manager in an interview with Sky Sports News.

“Brendan Rodgers is the only spokesperson at Celtic at the moment, I think he’s becoming frustrated answering the same questions every day when it comes to recruitment. Why can’t we get the deals over the line? This is a big issue. As fans, I think we’re balanced.

“I think they look at it and say, well, some players will be hedging their bets to see if Celtic get into the Champions League proper and I totally understand that, but Celtic need to be decisive in the transfer market. I think that we lack ambition. I don’t think that the boardroom has the same ambition as Brendan Rodgers and certainly the same ambition as a lot of the fans.”

It would be a surprise if Celtic failed to conduct any more incoming transfer business before the end of August, with a new transfer claim now emerging.

Celtic increase efforts to sign young attacker

According to an update from Joseph on X, Celtic have now held “fresh talks” over the signing of £5m-rated Go Ahead Eagles attacking midfielder Jakob Breum.

Breum could be just what the Hoops are looking for this summer, with the 21-year-old seen as not only a key figure from the off, but also a young player who is capable of reaching further heights in the coming years.

He has been capped for Denmark across four different youth levels, making a total of 21 caps for his country, while content creator Antonio Mango has described him as “really impressive”, also mentioning his versatility.

While £5m is far from cheap for Celtic, Breum has the long-term potential to make that look like a bargain over time, and Rodgers’ mood will likely improve if the club strike a deal for the youngster.

'Bionic Man' Ben Stokes embarks on rehabilitation after hamstring surgery

England captain prepares for three months out, with target of Zimbabwe Test in May

Ben Stokes, England’s Test captain, has described himself as “the Bionic Man” after undergoing scheduled surgery on his torn left hamstring.Stokes, 33, suffered a recurrence of the injury while bowling during England’s third Test against New Zealand in December, having first torn his hamstring while batting for Northern Superchargers against Manchester Originals in the men’s Hundred in August. That initial injury kept him out of action for two months, meaning that he missed England’s home Test series against Sri Lanka. He later admitted that his race to get fit in time for the team’s winter assignments in Pakistan and New Zealand had led him to “physically drain and ruin himself”.However, with England not set to play a Test until the visit of Zimbabwe in May, Stokes has committed to three months on the sidelines, including his omission from next month’s ICC Champions Trophy. At the time of his diagnosis, he vowed that he still has “blood, sweat and tears” left to give to the team, ahead of a defining 12 months that will feature five-Test series against India at home and Australia away. Now, he has posted a picture on Instagram, showing him lying on the back seat of a car in the aftermath of his surgery, wearing a large leg brace and supported by pillows.”Bionic Man for a while”, he added in the caption, alongside a laughing emoji, plus the sign-off: “In a bit…”.

Stokes had bowled 36.2 overs prior to his injury in Hamilton, the most he has bowled in a Test since 40 at Trent Bridge in 2022 (also against New Zealand). On the first day of the Test, his 23 overs were the most he had managed in a single day, split between spells of eight, eight and seven.Having arrived into England’s home summer following successful knee surgery in October 2023, he bowled 49 overs across three Tests against West Indies, with five wickets that took him past 200 career dismissals.”I have to work so much harder on the physical side of the job to allow me to go out and do my job,” he had said ahead of the Hamilton Test, “but I got a good amount of overs in during the last two games and I am more confident about getting through a lot of spells in a day.”That is where I got to before I pulled my hamstring. I bowled nice in the summer, had a setback but now feel out of that and not worrying about anything else happening again. As you get older you think about your body a bit more but I work harder because I have to.”In addition to the Champions Trophy, Stokes has been forced to forego a lucrative £800,000 deal with MI Cape Town in the SA20, which begins on Thursday.

Tottenham eyeing late move to sign £60m star who's similar to Eberechi Eze

Tottenham Hotspur remain in the market for a new number 10 as we fast approach deadline day on September 1, and time is running out for chairman Daniel Levy to back manager Thomas Frank with a replacement for the injured James Maddison.

Spurs missed out on Eberechi Eze in spectacular fashion, despite believing that they were on the verge of signing the England international when Spurs agreed personal terms and verbally agreed a deal with Crystal Palace.

When Arsenal came knocking, all hopes of landing the 27-year-old were dashed, as the boyhood Gunners supporter was always going to choose a move to N5 when Mikel Arteta’s side matched Tottenham’s bid.

Now, after also missing out on Morgan Gibbs-White earlier in the summer, Tottenham are scrambling for a playmaker who can genuinely upgrade Frank’s options – and their pool is running desperately thin.

Previously-linked target Tyler Dibling has just completed a move to Everton, so he’s off the table, while an audacious late swoop for Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers is looking increasingly unlikely.

Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche, Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott and Leicester City’s Bilal El Khannouss are other names linked with a late move to N17, as is Como starlet Nico Paz, but a move for the latter is very difficult considering Real Madrid have buy-back options, matching rights and a 50 per cent sell-on clause – meaning he is basically a Bernabeu player in all but name.

Another last-gasp target, now backed up by broadcast giant talkSPORT, is West Ham midfielder Lucas Paqueta.

Tottenham eye late move for West Ham star Lucas Paqueta

The Brazil international is valued at around £60 million, and talkSPORT correspondent Alex Crook reports that Tottenham are considering a late move for Paqueta after also tempting Mohammed Kudus from east London earlier in the window.

West Ham's Tomas Soucek celebrates with goalscorer Lucas Paqueta against Chelsea.

However, after West Ham stood by him in the midst of his betting scandal allegations, it is believed that the 28-year-old isn’t exactly clamoring to leave the London Stadium as things stand.

Graham Potter is also reluctant to lose him as his West Ham side struggled at the start of this Premier League season, but if Spurs make both the Hammers and Paqueta an offer too good to refuse, he could be an ideal signing.

The former Lyon star endured a difficult campaign last term, but was once on the cusp of a move to Man City after a stellar 2022/2023 campaign – a season where he provided the assist for Jarrod Bowen’s historic Conference League-winning goal.

Paqueta’s bagged 20 goals and 14 assists in total for West Ham since joining from Lyon, and he’s interestingly been called a “similar” player to Eze by Football Transfers.

Karimi Adeyemi 'working backwards' for Borussia Dortmund as coach praises striker's fine form

Karim Adeyemi's powerful strike in the early moments of the game against Wolfsburg sealed the win for Borussia Dortmund. Head coach Niko Kovac says the German forward took his advice to "work backwards" and aptly implemented it. The 23-year-old fired a powerful shot from outside the box, catching goalkeeper Kamil Grabara off-guard to score the only goal in the game.

Karim Adeyemi shines for Dortmund

Adeyemi was the difference-maker as Dortmund edged Wolfsburg 1-0, scoring a spectacular left-footed goal from distance in the 20th minute. He emerged as the game's standout performer with the most shots and relentless attacking runs. Head coach Kovac praised Adeyemi's physicality and hailed his increasing contribution to the team's collective play, stating that Adeyemi is now doing more for the team as Dortmund climbed to second in the Bundesliga with their third straight win.

In the post-match interview, the Dortmund coach was happy with how the team handled the pressure and showed total composure on the pitch to keep a clean sheet. He also praised Adeyemi for taking his advice and "working backwards."

"Karim only played five minutes in the last home game against Union," he said. He was annoyed, of course – but I told him: 'Karim, you're a great striker. You have to work backwards.' He's doing that more and more now. He's slowly understanding that you have to work backwards as a striker too. Because in the Bundesliga, the opponents have opportunities, which they then take advantage of – as we saw in the Champions League. We said: 'Boy, you won 1-0, you scored the goal. That's much better than a 5-4 – I think.' I hope he takes that as an example."

Asked about Adeyemi's shot, Kovac said: "I know what power he has in his thighs; he jumps higher than anyone else on our team."

Nico Schlotterbeck is back in the squad

Schlotterbeck made an emotional and impressive comeback for Dortmund by returning to the starting XI after nearly six months out with a meniscus injury. Slotting straight into the back three, Schlotterbeck played the full 90 minutes and delivered a composed defensive performance. After the match, Schlotterbeck expressed his happiness at being back, stating he had worked hard for six months and was grateful for the support from fans and staff. Coach Kovac praised the medical and rehabilitation team for bringing the 25-year-old back to full fitness, while also highlighting the stability he brings to the defence.

Vidarbha eye first-innings lead after Mumbai's middle-order collapse

Mumbai went from 113 for 2 to 118 for 6 in the space of 11 balls

Shashank Kishore18-Feb-2025A full-blown middle order collapse – four wickets in 11 deliveries – has left Mumbai with an uphill battle in their Ranji Trophy semifinal against Vidarbha in Nagpur.Parth Rekhade, the left-arm spin allrounder playing in only his second first-class match, dismissed Ajinkya Rahane, Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube in a single over, the 41st of the innings, as Mumbai went from a comfortable 113 for 2 to 113 for 5.Rahane was the first to go in the triple-wicket over for 18 when the ball rolled back onto the stumps off a defensive push. Suryakumar Yadav was next, out for a two-ball duck when he jabbed at an in-drifter with hard hands. Danish Malewar at silly point held it on the second attampts as it came off the pad after taking the inside edge. Dube then played back to one that skidded across from around the stumps as the thick edge was superbly taken at slip by Atharva Taide. There was more drama in store when Shams Mulani, who orchestrated a stunning turnaround in the quarter-final courtesy a century stand with Tanush Kotian, was trapped lbw by Harsh Dubey, the left-arm spinner. Originally given not out as he played around a sharp-turning delivery, Akshay Wadkar opted to review the decision and replays confirmed the ball would’ve crashed into the stumps. Mulani had to walk back for 4 as Dubey picked up his 60th wicket – it made him the sixth bowler in Ranji history and the first since Jaydev Unadkat in 2019-20 to pick up 60 or more in a season.Shivam Dube picked 5 for 49 as Vidarbha were bowled out for 383•PTI As he has often done, Shardul Thakur led a fierce Mumbai fightback as he put on a half-century stand with wicketkeeper Akash Anand, who battled his way to make a half-century from the top of the order. Shardul played his strokes and attacked the bowlers to pick up runs at every available opportunity. Their partnership was worth 60 when Shardul holed out to deep square for a 41-ball 37 while attempting to pull Yash Thakur, which was one of the last acts in an action-packed session.Yash Thakur bounded in full intensity on a hot afternoon, his figures of 2 for 56 in 11 overs doing no justice to his efforts. This included the big wicket of Siddhesh Lad to break a half-century stand when he got one to angle in and hold its line to burst past Lad’s outside edge. He should’ve also had Rahane lbw on 11, but for a no-ball he delivered in trying to hit the deck hard.In the morning session, Vidarbha managed to add just 75 to their overnight 308 for 5 with Yash Rathod, their top run-getter this season, bringing up his half-century before falling to trigger a slide. Dube, who had dismissed Rekhade and Karun Nair on the opening day, picked up three wickets in three overs to finish with figures of 11.5-1-49-5, his third five-for in first-class cricket.

Johnson eager for chance to fill Starc's big shoes

As a tall left-arm Australian quick, capable of hitting speeds consistently at 145kph, comparisons to Mitchell Starc are unavoidable.Since he burst into prominence in the BBL in recent years, Spencer Johnson has been anointed as the successor to Starc, whose versatility and durability were again evident during a brilliant Test series against Sri Lanka. With Starc to miss the Champions Trophy due to personal reasons, the spotlight will shine considerably on Johnson. He started his preparation with 2 for 44 from seven overs in the first ODI against Sri Lanka in Colombo and mirrored Australia’s fortunes.Related

  • Starc withdraws from Champions Trophy, Smith to captain Australia

  • Asalanka's stunning hundred, Theekshana's four wickets turn tables on Australia

  • Missing in action: Players injured and unavailable for the Champions Trophy

Johnson, 29, helped Australia move into a strong position with two wickets with the new ball before he suffered under an avalanche from skipper Charith Asalanka, who sparked a turnaround as Sri Lanka ran out eventual 49-run winners.”It’s obviously something I’ve pictured in my mind, to come in and play a similar role to him,” Johnson said about the Starc comparisons. “There were a few nerves there, and obviously big shoes to fill.”I think I am better for the run, it’s only my third ODI, hopefully a few more and I’ll be able to replicate some of the stuff he’s done.”While it’s easy to see why Johnson is likened to Starc, he mostly threatens through awkward bounce and probes away at a back of a length using his towering height to good effect. But after being carved through point by opener Pathum Nissanka, Johnson smartly readjusted to a fuller length and produced an edge to claim his maiden ODI wicket in his third match.Johnson’s second wicket was perhaps more fortuitous when he had Kamindu Mendis chipping tamely to square leg, but he bowled consistently around 140 kph with the new ball and his rearing bounce was impressive on a dry surface. It might just foreshadow what’s ahead in Pakistan where he is almost certain to be handed the new ball with a shorthanded Australia also without injured frontline quicks Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood.”Guys like Trent Boult and Starcy, left-armers who are aggressive, hopefully it’s what I can bring to Pakistan,” Johnson said. “I think this wicket is not what we’re going to get over in Pakistan.Spencer Johnson claimed his first ODI wickets during the opening match in Colombo•Getty Images

“It was nice to bowl on early with the new ball, and there was a bit of nip and carry. But [Pakistan] will be different to what we got here, potentially a bit flatter.”Australia’s selectors have been unsurprisingly keen to test Johnson in the shorter formats. The 29-year-old Johnson has played 11 white-ball internationals since debuting in South Africa in August 2023.Johnson produced his best international performance when he claimed 5 for 26 against Pakistan in November at the SCG – the best figures by an Australian quick in the format. But he’s so far in his career mostly played T20 cricket. Somewhat a product of franchise cricket, Johnson is already a veteran of the circuit having also played in the IPL, Major League Cricket, T20 Blast and The Hundred. But he’s had limited exposure in the longer formats with Johnson having played just 11 List A matches and six first-class matches. In his last first-class match in November, he snapped a tendon in the middle toe of his right foot during South Australia’s Sheffield Shield game against Western Australia after bowling 45 overs for the match.Set to be a key part of Australia’s Champions Trophy line-up, Johnson will now get a prolonged block in the 50-over format and a chance to build on a modest record of 12 wickets at 42.25 from 11 List A matches.”Obviously four overs [in T20 cricket] versus 10 overs is a little bit different, but the way I sequence my overs is pretty similar,” Johnson said. “I feel like I’m ready to play for Australia and I’ve had a little bit of a taste in T20 cricket and now a couple of ODIs. So heading to Pakistan it’s exciting and I’m ready to go.”
