Leeds stars comment on Stuart Dallas’ Instagram post after he signs new deal

Ben White, Luke Ayling and Phillips all posted emojis showing how happy they were with the news that Dallas will remain a Leeds player for the foreseeable future.

It’s great that Dallas is staying at United. Although he isn’t the first name on Marcelo Bielsa’s teamsheet, he’s clearly one of the more popular figures in the dressing room at Elland Road, as shown by the reaction of his peers.

Exclusive: John Hartson believes Dan James was a bargain for Man United

[ad_pod ]

In an exclusive interview with Football FanCast, John Hartson suggested that Manchester United and Wales may have a gem on their hands in the form of Dan James.

What did he say?

The winger has hit the ground running at Old Trafford since his summer arrival from Swansea, and he also took his form into the international break this week with a stunning winner against Belarus.

It has been a dream start for the 21-year-old, who has scored four goals for club and country just one month into the season – and is already only one short of the five-goal tally he achieved in 2018/19.

He has proved to be a key threat so far, and now his finishing ability seems to be matching his explosive pace – a perfect combination for a winger – and if he learns from teammates such as Anthony Martial and Gareth Bale he could go very far.

Hartson believes he is a great prospect and could go on to be an important player for both of his current sides. Speaking exclusively to Football FanCast, he said:

“There are some really good players in that Wales midfield, with the likes of Harry Wilson, Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey, Tom Lawrence, David Brooks and Dan James in particular who not only could have a massive impact for his country, but Manchester United too.

“United must be thinking oh my god, I can’t believe we got this boy for £15m. What’s he worth now?”

An astute addition

It has taken James only a matter of weeks to prove his critics wrong by showing he is ready to play at the highest level.

Moreover, United will consider him a steal at such a low price, particularly when compared to other young wingers signed by Premier League clubs in recent windows, such as Richarlison, who moved to Everton for a reported £50m, and Chelsea signing Christian Pulisic, who swapped Borussia Dortmund for west London in a £58m deal.

If James continues to progress as he has done since breaking into the Swansea first-team it is plausible to envision him being part of the United and Wales set-up for years to come, following in the footsteps of another Welsh winger: Ryan Giggs.

Both Giggs and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer have looked to provide young players with opportunities since taking on their respective roles, and James’ success is evidence that they have been vindicated in their decision to do so.

He could undoubtedly become a key member of both teams, as Hartson suggests.

Everton: Fans slam Jordan Pickford after role in Sheffield United defeat

Lots of Everton supporters have taken to social media to slam the efforts of Jordan Pickford during the Toffees’ defeat at home to Sheffield United.

The England number one goalkeeper conceded twice at home to the Blades on Saturday, with the first effort to hit the Blues’ net coming five minutes before half-time when Pickford rushed off his line to meet a corner only to miss the ball.

Though Pickford claimed he was pushed in the incident, the Video Assistant Referee did not support his calls, and allowed the goal to stand after the ball struck off Yerry Mina and into the empty net.

Blades forward Lys Mousset later put the visitors two goals to the good with only Chris Wilder’s side’s second shot of the game, and first on target (WhoScored), when he calmly rolled the ball under £100,000-a-week (Spotrac) Pickford.

Marco Silva’s first-choice shot-stopper has now conceded nine Premier League goals in four games, having kept two clean sheets during the first six rounds of fixtures.

As Pickford did not record a save from the two shots faced against Sheffield United, the 25-year-old’s record remains at 18 saves for the season. The Sunderland product also failed to record any collections or parries against Sheffield United.

Here are a selection of the reactions shared reflecting on Pickford’s efforts against the Blades…

Leeds winger Pablo Hernandez provides concerns for YEP journalist

[ad_pod ]

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Pundit View series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent quotes from journalists, pundits, players and managers…

Speaking to episode 68 of the Inside Elland Road podcast, Graham Smyth has labelled his concerns over Pablo Hernandez and his fitness.

What’s he said?

Hernandez was withdrawn with just over 15 minutes remaining against Derby last weekend as he was replaced by Barry Douglas.

Marcelo Bielsa brushed off questions about his fitness after the game as he suggested there was no injury but that hasn’t stopped a discussion taking place over whether has the capabilities to last during matches.

The Spaniard has been involved in four goals in eight matches this term so there is still quality left in him. For how much longer, however, is the real question lingering around the former Swansea man.

Appearing on the YEP podcast, Smyth detailed the following:

“Pablo would be the interesting one because it’s a natural question for a 34-year-old – how much football and relentless pressing and breakneck football has he got left in his legs? He is an absolute athlete but he’s 34, if he plays as much football this season as he did last that’s another big ask and then of course to extend the contract – which I can fully understand – he’s a magic man and he produces but you’d think he’d have to be managed perhaps in a slightly different way.

“Maybe not this season, maybe he’s got a full season of playing full-tilt football in his legs but as the older he gets, you can’t defy science. There’s no way around the ageing process even for a super fit man like him. You think would he be able to start every game and play 90 minutes twice a week through the winter when he’s already played so much football?”

Hernandez could become a dilemma

It remains to be seen whether the experienced head has what it takes to play out a similar season to 2018/19.

He was absolutely phenomenal in Leeds’ run to the playoffs as he contributed to 24 goals in the Championship alone.

Hernandez was certainly their magic man but there have been a few signs of some dwindling performances this term – particularly against Derby where he failed to register a shot at goal for the first time in 2019/20.

At the age of 34 concerns are right to be there over his fitness and as the campaign plays out he may have to be managed carefully, certainly when the Whites play two games in a week.

It might be that moving him inside and playing behind the striker is a good way forward. That would mean he wouldn’t have to get up and down the channel constantly throughout 90 minutes. Instead, he could sit in a creative role that doesn’t require him to defend.

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino goaded by Piers Morgan on Twitter

Is there anyone more accomplished at getting nibbles than Piers Morgan? No one is safe from the outspoken journalist-turned-television-presenter when he decides he’s in the mood for a couple of bites from angry opposing fans, which we imagine help him sleep at night.Watch Tottenham Hotspur Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

It must feel like Christmas for Morgan at the moment; Spurs are in total decline, and while their neighbours aren’t exactly enjoying a fine run of form themselves, with just one win in five, they aren’t being spanked 7-2 by Bayern Munich.

Though, he’d do well to remember the Gunners have conceded 15 goals and scored just three against the Bundesliga champions in their previous three meetings. But perhaps that’s why his work is so masterful – he presses on regardless.

Morgan once again proved last night why he’s so utterly despised in the football community with a shot at Mauricio Pochettino…

Let’s all remember the day he was forced to wear a Spurs shirt by Peter Crouch. Ah, you love to see it.

Tottenham chairman Levy’s stance on Vertonghen confusing given Sissoko contract

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

According to The Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur are in talks with defender Jan Vertonghen over a contract extension, but one aspect of the report suggests the usually-shrewd Daniel Levy has left Spurs in a difficult situation.

What’s the word, then?

Well, The Daily Mail says Spurs are apprehensive about offering anything more than a 12-month deal for the 32-year-old given his age.

As things stand, the Belgium international will be able to sign a pre-contract agreement with a European club during the January transfer window that would allow him to leave on a free next summer, or a club would have to pay a fee to take him in the New Year.

Watch Tottenham Hotspur Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Vertonghen has been a key player for the north London outfit since signing in 2012, and he is just shy of making his 300th appearance for the club.

New Moussa Sissoko deal could be an issue

Tottenham would have raised a few eyebrows when they handed the France international a new four-year contract last week, especially given he is 30 years of age – a move away from their usual policy.

In fact, when Mauricio Pochettino was asked about the new contract for the former Newcastle United man at the weekend, via Football London’s Alasdair Gold on Twitter, he basically said it was down to the club rather than him, suggesting Levy is the perpetrator when it comes down to these particular calls.

The Daily Mail reports that Vertonghen could use the Sissoko news as a bargaining tool when it comes to potentially committing his future to the north London outfit, who seemingly don’t want to give him any more than a year.

Levy may well have made a rod for his own back on this occasion, because Vertonghen can just point to Sissoko’s situation during negotiations, and the chairman will surely find it difficult to argue with him.

Real Madrid should drop Casemiro vs Mallorca so he doesn’t miss El Clasico

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Real Madrid have some big games ahead of them in the coming weeks.

Just after the international break, they will travel to Mallorca but they’ll also be keeping one eye on the fast-approaching El Clasico at the end of the month. For that reason, Zinedine Zidane has to make sure Casemiro doesn’t get a suspension for their trip to the Camp Nou.

On the chalkboard

Los Blancos have been wrestling with key absences ever since 2019 pre-season.

In total, Real have had to deal with a total of 13 different injuries, which have undoubtedly affected their performances.

Luckily, one of the players that managed to stay safe and fit has been their Brazilian midfielder, Casemiro.

But now, with four yellow cards to his name and with the nature of his role, the 27-year-old is in real danger of getting that fifth card and earning a suspension that would see him miss El Clasico at the end of the month.

Zidane simply can’t allow that to happen.

Risk worth taking

With the recent injury to Toni Kroos, Zidane has already lost one key player in the middle of the pitch and we still don’t know whether the German will return in time to face Barcelona.

For that reason, risking Casemiro in the game against Mallorca would be unwise.

This is amplified when we take a quick glance at just how crucial the Brazilian has been for the Galacticos so far.

Watch Lionel Messi and Gareth Bale answer the internet’s weirdest questions in the video below…

With 870 minutes to his name, he is their most-used player of the 2019/20 campaign. He has played in eight La Liga games and already tallied one goal and one assist, while accompanying that with one shot and one dribble per game along with 85.8% passing accuracy.

But his incredible defensive work is what he’s all about – so far, he has averaged 2.8 tackles, 2.6 interceptions and two clearances per game, absolutely dominating the opposition.

And seeing how he is often duelling his counterparts in the middle of the pitch, the risk of getting booked is definitely higher as well.

Can Real Madrid really afford to lose such a big presence for El Clasico even though it means risking the result against Mallorca?

Zidane has plenty of options, too, if he decides to rest Casemiro. He could utilise Luka Modric in a deeper role, opening the door to James Rodriguez’s inclusion as a playmaker, while Isco has returned from injury and Federico Valverde has played in the last four league games.

Besides, with 870 minutes played already, Casemiro could definitely do with a rest.

Liverpool could sell Sheyi Ojo amid Rangers’ interest in a permanent deal

This article is part of Football FanCast’s Transfer Focus series, which provides opinion and analysis on recent transfer news…

Sheyi Ojo joined Rangers on a season-long loan in the summer and Football Insider report that the Scottish club are interested in making the move permanent.

What’s the story?

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard appears to be a big admirer of the Reds winger having signed him on loan for the second season running.

He is 22 years of age now but has only made 13 appearances for Liverpool, and therefore looks unlikely to break into Jurgen Klopp’s first-team plans, which means the club could look to offload him.

Watch a Liverpool fan discover the internet and get a nasty surprise in the video below…

Ojo has scored five goals and assisted four in 17 games for the Glasgow outfit this term, including a brilliant strike to earn his side a 1-0 vicotry over Feyenoord in the Europa League group stage.

As a result, he has been an important player for the former Liverpool captain, so could replicate the path of Ryan Kent by making the permanent switch from Anfield to Ibrox.

Time to part ways

Liverpool have not had much success in recent years in terms of academy players breaking into the first-team, but it has proved a fruitful avenue of income, with a few joining other big clubs.

Kent is an example of that, as is Jordon Ibe, and with Ojo some way below the standard set by Sadio Mane or even Xherdan Shaqiri, it is unlikely he will be of any use to the Anfield outfit.

With that in mind, Klopp will likely give a green light for his sale, and may have given his admission already with the club said to be open to offers.

With players such as Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones coming through there is no shortage of young talent at the club, and by selling Ojo it provides them with a clearer pathway to the first-team, so the importance of their development could lead Liverpool to accept an offer from Rangers.

Aston Villa may be haunted by ex-Dean Smith favourite Neal Maupay

This article is part of Football FanCast’s The Chalkboard series, which provides a tactical insight into teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…

Aston Villa are back in Premier League action this weekend as they host Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday afternoon.

The two teams battled it out not too long ago in the Carabao Cup with the south coast side naming a predominantly youth-focused line up as Dean Smith’s men ran out 3-1 winners to set up a tie with Midlands rivals Wolves in the next round.

Watch Aston Villa Live Streams With StreamFootball.tv Below

Now they will be looking to build on their last top-flight outing after demolishing Norwich City 5-1 on their own patch – Wesley doubled his tally for the season while a trio of midfielders also managed to get their name on the scoresheet.

Their chances of doing so may hinge on whether or not they can keep one of Smith’s former favourites under lock and key.

On the Chalkboard

Over the summer, Villa were often linked to Neal Maupay as the 40-year-old first brought him to England when he was the manager at Brentford back in 2017.

But the Seagulls eventually clinched him in a £16m deal and so far he’s enjoying life in the Premier League, scoring three goals in six starts, including the opener against Tottenham last time out.

His record in English football has been quite superb, having netted 41 goals in 95 appearances for the Bees over just two seasons.

Aston Villa’s summer signings’ performances so far this season are rated in the video below…

He is likely to be the dangerman for Brighton on Saturday afternoon, but Smith should know, at least to some extent, how to combat his former striker.

Because if he doesn’t, he could well leave a lasting effect on Villa, particularly if those summer transfer links were indeed correct.

Maupay played 58 times under Smith at Brentford, scoring 23 times and claiming eight assists – a fabulous return.

The 23-year-old averages 2.5 shots per game, but is prone to the odd dispossession (1.9) and unsuccessful touch (2.4), per WhoScored, and this is where the likes of Tyrone Mings and Bjorn Engels can capitalise.
