Alongside a dashing 81 from Craig Kieswetter, Lumb ensured that Adil Rashid’s crucial three wicket burst didn’t go to waste as the Lions completed their fourth win in five games on tour.Having qualified to play for England on Tuesday, Kieswetter issued another stark reminder of his talent and pushed his case for a spot at the top of England’s order. Opening with Lumb, he started watchfully and was fortunate to be given a life while on 4, when Stuart Broad dropped a simple chance at mid off. While Kieswetter was still finding his feet, Lumb was more expansive, clubbing his way to 40 from 29 balls, before a Broad bouncer struck him in the face and forced him to retire hurt.Despite losing captain Andrew Gale and Ian Bell soon after, Kieswetter held his nerve, running hard and picking off the occasional boundary to keep the required rate in check. He reached his third fifty of the tour but England bowled better in the latter stages, picking up wickets and squeezing the scoring rate.With 33 needed from the final 18 balls it looked like England would sneak a victory but Kieswetter counterattacked and Lumb returned after Michael Carberry fell to Ryan Sidebottom to pick up from where the opening partnership had left off. He struck a boundary from the second ball and a two off the third to bring up his fifty before finishing it in style with two boundaries.It was due reward for the Lions after Rashid removed Paul Collingwood, Kevin Pietersen and Eoin Morgan in three overs to leave England floundering at 68 for 5. It was timely a reminder to the selectors after he was replaced by James Tredwell for the senior tour to Bangladesh.Having struggled in South Africa this is an important tour for Pietersen and after struggling for timing early on he struck a couple of boundaries including one straight down the ground off Rashid. The next ball he tried to repeat the shot but was caught in the deep by Chris Woakes as England stumbled.It took two bristling innings, first from Matt Prior and then Luke Wright, to save them from real embarrassment. Prior timed the ball sweetly during his innings of 33 before he was stumped off Steven Finn. It was an important innings for Prior who will feel the pressure of Kieswetter, especially after his runs today, creeping up on his place.Wright endured a Test tour of drinks-carrying in South Africa, but enjoyed being back in the thick of the action. He was severe on all the bowlers, slashing five fours and heaving two sixes over the legside boundary in his 21-ball 42.It lifted England up to a competitive total but with Kieswetter’s power at the top of the order for the Lions meant it wasn’t enough. Speaking after the game, Kieswetter told reporters that his upbringing playing hockey in South Africa has shaped his approach to opening the batting in cricket.”I played field hockey when I was younger and that probably comes into the technique a bit,” he said. “Usually I just swing from the hip as hard as I can. I like to think I can hit the ball hard but I don’t like to see myself as a slogger. In other forms of the game, like 50 overs, I’d like to think I can bat through and help win games. You have to weigh up a brand new ball against the field restrictions but I quite like the fact that there are only two men out (of the ring) in the first six overs.”

At just 22 years of age and with over 150 appearances already for Marseille, including in the UEFA Champions League, Kamara is one of the most promising players making a name for himself in the game.

Once dubbed a ‘phenomenon’ by teammate Rolando, he has the capabilities of playing in many different areas of the pitch, mainly as a defensive midfielder or a central defender.

His versatility would be of so much use to Eddie Howe, who has reportedly told the owners that he wants him, and thinks that he is ‘too good’ to miss out on this month (The Sun).

Kamara’s contract is also up in the summer, and so there is a potential for the Magpies to get themselves a real bargain.

Waqar Younis has emerged as the favourite to take over the coaching role of the Pakistan side. A decision is expected to be announced soon, possibly within the week, but Cricinfo understands that the Pakistan board chairman is keen to have the former fast bowler take over from Intikhab Alam.It is believed that Ijaz Butt and Waqar met in Dubai recently, after the second Twenty20 international between England and Pakistan, and that followed from a couple of meetings in Lahore the week before. A verbal offer has been made and, though Waqar is currently back in Sydney, where he resides, he is said to be essentially gearing up to return and take on the role, though only once all formalities have been resolved.Waqar has had two coaching stints with Pakistan previously; the first was a successful one in 2006-07 though it ended on a bad note with the then administration. He was then appointed as a bowling and fielding coach for the recent tour of Australia, though the appointment was only for a single series.Waqar had recently expressed an interest in taking on a broader role with the side. “If offered I would love to take on the role of coach,” Waqar told Cricinfo recently. “Pakistan cricket remains my absolute passion and number one priority. I don’t want to do it on an appointment or short-term basis though. I’d like to have time to work with the boys, to really be able to plan ahead.”The PCB has yet to even announce publicly the end of Intikhab’s tenure, though it is widely acknowledged that they are looking for a new coach. The decision is likely to be taken once an inquiry committee, set up to look into the Australian tour whitewashes, releases its findings sometime this week.Speculation over the last few days has focused mostly on foreign coaches even as Wasim Bari, the board’s chief operating officer and head of the committee, insisted that “only the best coach will be appointed and it will not be dependent on nationality.”Greg Chappell already turned down an approach. Veloz e habilidoso, Léo Natel costuma jogar aberto pelas beiradas do campo – característica que Rogério Ceni procura em um atacante. O contato, inclusive, foi feito pelo próprio ídolo são-paulino, que convidou o jogador para atuar no Fortaleza na temporada do ano que vem.

Nascido em Porto Alegre, o jogador fez boa parte da sua categoria de base no Benfica, mas foi emprestado ao Tricolor para trabalhar no CT de Cotia e, posteriormente, comprado pelos são-paulinos, que desembolsaram R$ 500 mil por 70% dos direitos econômicos do atleta. O atacante tem contrato com o clube do Morumbi até junho de 2020.

O Fortaleza ainda não forneceu maiores informações sobre a apresentação de seu novo reforço. A tendência é de que ele embarque para o Ceará nos próximos dias e seja integrado ao grupo que está sendo formado por Rogério Ceni. A estreia do Leão no Campeonato Cearense acontece no dia 11 de janeiro, contra o Tiradentes.

Leeds United are interested in signing Lazio and Kosovo striker Vedat Muriqi in the January transfer window, according to a new transfer rumour.

The Lowdown: Muriqi forging impressive career

The 27-year-old has often caught the eye at international level for Kosovo, scoring 18 goals in 37 caps, an average of just under one in every two matches.

Also, back in 2019, his then-Fenerbahce team-mate Max Kruse described him as “Very ambitious, very enthusiastic, very hardworking… I compare him to Lewandowski”. That is lofty praise given how the Bayern Munich striker has netted 325 goals in 355 appearances for the Bundesliga champions.

Muriqi isn’t having such a fruitful time of things at Lazio, though, only managing one Serie A start this season and struggling to force his way into Maurizio Sarri’s plans. For that reason, a January exit looks set to be on the cards, and Leeds may be ready to swoop.

The Latest: Leeds interested in Muriqi

According to La Lazio Siamo Noi [via Sport Witness], the Whites have a ‘formula’ to sign the Kosovan from Lazio, with their interest ‘registered in recent hours’ after Hull City pulled out of a move.

Muriqi’s current deal doesn’t expire until the summer of 2025, but the Serie A club could still be keen to offload him if the right offer comes along.

The Verdict: Ideal January signing

Leeds are badly in need of attacking firepower in January, especially with Patrick Bamford suffering such an injury-plagued season to date.

There is too much reliance on the 27-year-old for goals – he is still the Whites’ joint-second-top scorer in the Premier League this season, despite only starting five games in the division – and Muriqi could help to ease that issue.

Granted, he has struggled at club level of late, but his international record speaks for itself and he could be an ideal man to bring into Marcelo Bielsa’s squad. Given that he scored freely in Turkey before joining Lazio, perhaps a change of scenery is all that’s needed to get the Kosovan firing again.
