After turning in another barnstorming limited-overs performance to clinch the President’s Cup for Trinidad & Tobago, Kieron Pollard has set his sights on carrying that form into the longer version of the game.Pollard, who slammed 57 and took three wickets in the President’s Cup final, has made his name as a lethal hitter and is part of the West Indies side in ODIs and Twenty20s but has yet to make a Test appearance. He wanted to use the upcoming regional four-day tournament to dispel the notion that he was a limited-overs specialist.”I am looking forward to returning home to be with the guys for the regional four-day tournament,” he said. “I have been batting consistently well in the four-day tournament as well, so I hope that I am not labelled as just one type of player.”Pollard’s profile increased dramatically last month after an electric 18-ball 54 to upset New South Wales in the Champions League Twenty20. His international performances have been underwhelming so far, though, and he admitted to being disappointed at being overlooked for the tour of Australia which starts later this month.”I have been batting pretty well in all forms of the game and not being selected for the West Indies is a bit disappointing,” he said. “I just have to continue working hard and doing what I do best and leave the rest up to the selectors.”While not part of the West Indies touring party he will be in Australia next month, after picking up a Twenty20 contract with South Australia on the back of his exploits in the Champions League. “That is a big move for my career,” he said. “Going to Australia I see as a stepping stone in my career and I am going to grab this opportunity with both hands.”

Wolves winger Adama Traore will trade Molineux for Liverpool in January, according to former Sunderland and England striker Kevin Phillips.

The Lowdown: Traore linked with Liverpool move

The Spaniard has been linked with a move to the Reds a number of times in recent weeks, having still not signed a new deal with Wolves.

Traore came up against Liverpool on Saturday, and while he did his best to make things happen, another game drifted by without him registering a goal or an assist, as has been the case all season.

With Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane set to depart for the Africa Cup of Nations next month, Jurgen Klopp may need to bring in a new wide man and Traore could be a genuine target, with the Reds boss himself even naming the Spaniard as ‘unplayable’ last season.

Speaking to Football Insider, Phillips claimed the move will go through, bringing an end to Traore’s time at Molineux in the process:

“I think that deal will happen. Traore would jump at the chance to join Liverpool. You do not turn that opportunity down, even if you are going to sit on the bench a little bit. Traore has been at Wolves a while now.

“From Liverpool’s point of view, £20million is a good price for player who can hurt teams from the bench. He is what he is though, he can also frustrate the hell out of you.

“As an impact player I think he’d be a good signing though. I think for £20million it is a good deal all round.”

The Verdict: Time to move on

Traore’s entertainment value on a football pitch cannot be denied, given his electrifying speed and dribbling ability, but now is the time for Wolves to receive a fee for him.

To put it bluntly, the 25-year-old’s end product simply isn’t good enough, with his aforementioned no goals or assists this season a woeful return, and 28 goal contributions (10 goals, 18 assists) in 147 Wolves appearances also poor for an attacking player.

They could use the funds received for Traore to sign a superior replacement who delivers more consistently in the final third, making their attack more potent.

Munaf Patel took five wickets in the morning to bowl out Saurashtra for 127 in just 35 overs; run-machine Cheteshwar Pujara can only make 9. Even that total was reached due to a 26 from No. 8 Rakesh Dhurv after Saurashtra were 99 for 9. The final wicket stand proved invaluable after Baroda lost the initiative when their batting folded for 124. Baroda lost a wicket off the first ball of the reply, but things seemed to be back on track when they reached 78 for 4. Medium-pacer Jayesh Odedra, however, took five of the final six Baroda wickets to give Saurashtra the first-innings honours.

Experienced Delhi players, Mithun Manhas and Rajat Bhatia, combined for a 256-run fourth-wicket stand to demoralise Maharashtra at the Roshanara Club ground. Maharashtra’s decision to field seemed to be paid dividends when Delhi were reduced to 88 for 3, with captain Virat Kohli dismissed for 4. However, Manhas went on to his 17th first-class century and Bhatia missed out on triple figures by one run to put Delhi in control. Wolves are back in action this lunchtime with an away Premier League clash against Manchester City after their crushing 1-0 defeat against Liverpool at Molineux last weekend.

In terms of which players Bruno Lage could pick to be in his starting XI to take on Pep Guardiola’s side, one man who should not be in the team today is wing-back Nelson Semedo.

His display against Liverpool showed why the Portuguese international isn’t capable of performing against the top teams in the Premier League, such as Manchester City, who have scored 32 goals and conceded just nine in their 15 league games so far this season.

In Semedo’s 90 minutes on the pitch against Jurgen Klopp’s side, he only completed 18 of his 29 passes and found a team-mate with just one of the six long balls he attempted, ultimately losing possession 21 times.

From a defensive point of view, the ex-Barcelona player – who has previously been derided as a “liability” at the back by Tim Spiers – only won three of his 11 duels and failed to make any tackles or block any shots. He was also dribbled past on two occasions, hardly making himself a tough opponent for Liverpool’s attacking players.

This display ultimately earned the 28-year-old an overall match rating of 6.2/10, making him the lowest-rated Wolves player on the day according to SofaScore – even lower than the likes of Joao Moutinho and Francisco Trincao, who came on as late substitutes in the 1-0 defeat.

The Express & Star also picked up on Semedo’s rather worrying display by claiming that he “struggled” in the game and that “defensively he allowed Mane and Robertson to get beyond him too often and he gave the ball away regularly,” as well as saying that he “offered little going forward.”

With this in mind as well as City’s plentiful attacking riches, it could be in Lage’s best interest not to start Semedo – who is currently earning £84k-per-week according to Salary Sport – this afternoon, as City’s attacking stars could target him as Wolves’ defensive weak link.
