Gers fans rage at Europa League news

Glasgow Rangers fans are far from happy with the news that the three tickets for their Europa League group stage home games will cost £117.

After winning the Premiership last term, the Gers had the chance to qualify for the Champions League before they were beaten by Malmo 4-2 on aggregate in the competition’s third qualifying round. However, they were able to reach the Europa League group stages after getting past Alashkert.

In that stage of the tournament, Rangers will play Lyon, Brondby and Sparta Prague. The prices for tickets are now on sale, and they have been priced at £117 for the whole package. The supporters, it seems, feels that is a bit steep, and are worried about paying such a price to be able to attend the games.

The Heart and Hand podcast made the original complaint on their Twitter page, and it attracted plenty of attention from the supporters. They took to the social media platform to share their thoughts.

The BCCI expects “no problem” in hosting the first Test as scheduled from December 11 in Chennai, where Reg Dickason, the ECB’s security advisor, carried out an inspection of the stadium

The Indian cricket board says it expects “no problem” in hosting the first Test as scheduled from December 11 in Chennai, where Reg Dickason, the ECB’s security advisor, carried out an inspection of the stadium on Wednesday. “We had some security concerns and those have been addressed,” Dickason said after the inspection.England’s tour of India, starting next week, and their players’ availability for the two-Test series hinges on the security report Dickason will submit to the ECB. “Dickason will go to Mohali for discussions with Punjab Cricket Association and then make his report to the ECB,” N Srinivasan, the BCCI secretary, said.In Chennai, Dickason had discussions with Srinivasan, who is also president of the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA), which manages the MA Chidambaram stadium, and had security-related discussions with Chennai’s police commissioner and other officials. He also visited the venue around afternoon and inspected the dressing rooms and the players’ sitting areas.”Based on the discussions held and the clarifications given, the BCCI expects no problem with the first Test being held in Chennai,” Srinivasan said.BCCI sources told Cricinfo that Dickason “had sent a set of conditions before his arrival and during the inspection these things will be discussed”. The requirements are believed to involve blanket security from Indian special forces. Indian newspapers have reported that the ECB had asked the BCCI for a group of 20 commandos to accompany the team at all times along with an emergency evacuation plan in case of a terrorist strike and a security blanket over England’s dressing rooms.Chennai police commissioner K Radhakrishnan said that Dickason expressed satisfaction on the security arrangements being planned for the match. “[A] central access control system will be installed at the vantage point and the players’ viewing area and also at the team hotel. The players, upon their arrival here, will be advised to restrict their movements outside the hotel area,” he said. “The Tamil Nadu police will also provide extra security at the stadium, which will be more than the usual security arrangement and the players protection by the security staff will be watertight.”On the cricket front, the Indian selectors are expected to meet in Chennai on Thursday afternoon to pick the team for the two Tests, while the ECB is learned to be considering the option of organizing a practice game in Abu Dhabi for their team on its way to India.”There are plans but nothing is finalised yet,” an official in Abu Dhabi told Cricinfo. “It will be a stop-over for a few days but they are currently struggling to get a flight to Abu Dhabi. It is difficult to arrange a game right now as it has been the national day holidays and also Eid is coming up, so the players are away. But we’ll set up the nets and facilities at the Sheikh Zayed stadium for them should they come. A decision is expected later this evening.”

Spurs fans erupt over Joshua Oluwayemi clip

Flocking to Twitter, many Tottenham Hotspur fans have been blown away by training footage of unseen talent Joshua Oluwayemi, with some pleading that he gets game-time this season.

The goalkeeper, yet to make a senior competitive appearance for Spurs in all competitions (Transfermarkt), spent part of last campaign on loan at Maidenhead United in the National League.

Appearing in just one match for the non-league outfit, Oluwayemi conceded two goals in 44 minutes before he returned to Spurs and their under-23s side midway through the 2020/21 season.

The 20-year-old went on to feature 12 times for Tottenham in Premier League 2 before finishing up the campaign, but it’s safe to say that he has now turned heads on social media for what he has done at Hotspur Way.

Dropping footage on Twitter, Spurs’ official channel released a clip of Oluwayemi making a fantastic acrobatic save and immediately recovering the ball upon spilling.

As a result, many Lilywhites supporters have been left excited, with some hoping that he gets a chance under first team manager Nuno Espirito Santo.

Exclusive: Ex-PL striker drops Haaland to Liverpool bombshell

Former Premier League striker Nigel Jemson insists that his beloved Liverpool could make a move to sign Borussia Dortmund superstar Erling Haaland next summer.

The £117m-rated by Transfermarkt Norway international has emerged as perhaps one of the best strikers in the world since joining the Bundesliga club.

Haaland has made a total of 65 appearances for the club, scoring 65 goals and registering 19 assists, while he has also scored 12 goals in 15 caps for Norway.

This season, already, Haaland has been an electric presence, scoring eight goals in six games in all competitions and laying on four assists.

He is set to be at the centre of a major bidding war next summer, as his release clause will become active.

That stands at around £65m, and Jemson believes that Liverpool will do everything they can to bring him into the club, as he is the striker that Jurgen Klopp really wants.

Speaking to Football FanCast, he said: “I’ve just got a sneaky feeling that Haaland could be the one that Klopp really wants.”

A monumental effort from Shivakant Shukla, the fourth-longest innings in first-class cricket, took Uttar Pradesh through to their third final in four years on a tense fourth day in Nagpur. Both teams fought hard till the end for the vital first-innings lead. UP were the favourites to knock off the required 193 runs at the start of the final day, but a spirited L Balaji and some careless batting turned the match into an edge-of-the-seat affair. However, Shukla continued unflustered, playing with intense determination to steer his team into the lead with only two wickets in hand. When Praveen Gupta, the No. 10 batsman, cover-drove Balaji for a boundary in the ninth over of the mandatory last 15, it sparked off manic celebrations in the UP camp. The pent-up tension of the final three hours – when not many moved from their seats – was released. The whole team ran on to the field, and the captains agreed to call off the game.Shukla had come to bat 87 minutes before stumps on the second day, and struggled his way to dusk. Two days later, he was still there, having batted with focus and guts, cashing in on the chances and half-chances that came his way during his 821-minute stay at the crease. His 178 came off 569 deliveries, but he didn’t let the slow scoring bog himself down mentally. He deservedly came back to the dressing room on the shoulders of his team-mates.Shukla and his partner for five-and-half-hours on Tuesday, Parvinder Singh, started confidently. The pitch was flat, and the attack – but for Balaji – not testing. TN came out with a plan – that of not giving away easy runs, and testing the temperament of the two inexperienced batsmen. In the sixth over of the day Parvinder nudged one to the leg side and brought up his first first-class century, vindication of the talent that had been tried only for 13 games since his debut first-class game in 1999-2000. The fresh bowlers and the little assistance the conditions offered them early in the day had no impact on the two batsmen as their partnership blossomed. When Balaji was brought back for a second spell, just before lunch, the stand had swollen beyond 250, and UP needed 120 more. The runs had started coming freely too: Parvinder had overtaken Shukla in scoring courtesy a four and a six in the same over off C Suresh. But Balaji finally produced the turnaround, getting a top edge: 462 minutes had elapsed since the last one. Bhuvneshwar Kumar showed the aptitude to hag around with Shukla, and UP went to the break as the favourites.Post lunch, Balaji got a change of ends, and got one ball to swing from around Bhuvneshwar’s pads. The batsman went to flick it, but it straightened enough to take the leading edge and lob to S Vidyut at midwicket. With 110 runs still required, the flashier Piyush Chawla and Praveen Kumar couldn’t afford to just throw their bats around. They had no clarity of purpose, and two ordinary shots later, TN were right back in the game. Chawla failed to clear mid-off, placed slightly deeper, off R Ashwin. Praveen, after having hit two streaky boundaries, went for a big hit to the leg side, and it was a formality for one of the three boundary-riders to gobble it up.Seventy-two runs were still required. Shukla was unbeaten on 141, in desperate need of company. Amir Khan, the wicketkeeper, was just the man to support a rescue act for UP, having done so in previous matches this season against Baroda and Karnataka. Shukla had enough confidence in Amir to not try anything desperate. As the eighth-wicket partnership continued to take UP towards safety, Tamil Nadu went for the third new ball, and with that back to their only weapon: Balaji. With a pulled boundary of C Ganapathy, Shukla reached his 150 minutes before tea. UP needed 41 in the last session, with three wickets in hand.Forty-one minutes into the final session, Shukla had batted 796 minutes – equalling the incredible effort by Shitanshu Kotak against Mumbai last season. Four minutes later he overtook Len Hutton and Sanath Jayasuriya too. Balaji, who had bowled 50 overs in the innings by then, came off a shorter run after tea, but was still the toughest to negotiate. Just when UP brought the target down to 25, he struck with a peach – a ball that started outside off stump and straightened to take Amir’s edge. Out came Praveen Gupta and he survived two close lbw shouts off the first two balls Balaji bowled to him.Shukla now started to dominate the strike, twice taking a single off the last ball of the over, and once hitting a boundary after the field was brought up. With the target at 17, Gupta got a half-volley from Balaji and he crashed it through the off side for four. He was an equal partner after that. There was more drama still. Shukla edged one off Ashwin with soft hands, but it fell short of gully – the third such instance on the day. While UP were ecstatic in the end, TN were graceful in defeat. The winning runs came in Balaji’s 54th over, but he was a winner – as coach WV Raman put it, he bowled himself into the ground. It was fitting that it took an effort as big as Shukla’s to outdo him.
