Apesar de ter passado os três primeiros meses do ano estampando a marca da Caixa Econômica Federal, o Santos acertou a parceria com o banco estatal apenas nesta segunda-feira. O acordo referente ao patrocínio master é válido até o dia 31 de dezembro e irá render aos cofres do Peixe R$ 16 milhões.

O acordo teve início nos últimos dois meses de 2016, quando o Alvinegro recuperou a Certidão Negativa de Débitos (pré-requisito para ter apoio do Governo Federal). Em novembro e dezembro, a Caixa aceitou fazer uma espécie de experimento com o patrocínio e desembolsou R$ 2 milhões.

O Santos não tinha um patrocinador master desde 2013, quando o Banco BMG deixou o clube.

Neste período, o clube teve apenas anúncios pontuais. Além da Caixa, o Peixe tem apoios de Algar, Sil e Royal Air Maroc.

According to Dutch outlet De Telegraaf, Glasgow Rangers have made a €4.5m (£3.8m) offer for Heerenveen midfielder Joey Veerman.

The Verdict: Making their move

Ross Wilson and co, it seems, are finally making their move for Veerman. It is a little surprising that this comes after the 55-time Scottish champions have already brought in one new midfielder in John Lundstram (rangers.co.uk), but with nine goals and 11 assists last term in all competitions (Transfermarkt), it is clear the Dutchman could offer plenty going forward.

That’s according to a report by the Derby Telegraph, who claim that the former Queens Park Rangers midfielder has started training with Wayne Rooney’s side, and could feature in the club’s pre-season friendly against Salford City on Saturday.

The news comes after the EFL granted Derby permission to sign up to five out of contract players in the summer transfer window, although the Championship side still remain under a transfer embargo.

Carroll could finally replace Johnson

While a knee injury saw Carroll sidelined for the second half of last season, the 29-year-old nevertheless demonstrated in his time at QPR that he would prove an extremely useful addition to Wayne Rooney’s Derby side ahead of next season.

“If you want to see us soar, then you need to make sure back home in Nigeria we have the best possibilities. Why don’t we have a base in Nigeria, where we meet up like St. George’s Park in England. We don’t have something like that.

“Then you’ve spoken of unpaid bonuses. It’s not a secret even, and then I have read something recently when people in charge, they contradict themselves said things have been paid, then they admit they haven’t been paid.”

The Verdict: Frustration

You can understand Balogun’s frustration. Nigeria are one of African football’s powerhouses, having won the African Cup of Nations on three occasions. Their recent record, though, is worrying, although it is not yet a disaster, but they are clearly not being given the best chances of success.

That will be in contrast to the situation at club level. The Gers are current Premiership champions and have a chance of competing in the Champions League group stages this season. Balogun, hailed as “excellent” by Alan Hutton last term, is likely to play a big part of that.

The Ibrox outfit look settled and ready for all that comes their way – Nigeria, clearly, are not quite at that level.
