Carlo Ancelotti must be reunited with Adrien Rabiot at Everton during the January transfer window amid rumours of negotiations to sign the Juventus midfielder on loan.

According to TodoFichajes, the Toffees are in discussions with Juve over a potential deal for Rabiot to move to Goodison Park until the end of the season with an option to buy.

Everton are considered the best-placed side to hire the Frenchman in the mid-season market with Ancelotti keen to work with the 25-year-old again following their time together at Paris Saint-Germain.

Ancelotti is claimed to have instructed the Blues hierarchy to pursue a deal for Rabiot this month, with Andrea Pirlo preparing to reshape his Juventus squad with several players touted for uncertain futures.

Rabiot has struggled to establish himself under Pirlo at the Allianz Stadium this season and is expected to be made available for a transfer, having started only nine of his 12 Serie A appearances and three of five outings in the Champions League Group Stage.

The £29m-rated maestro has provided one goal thus far this term, coming in a 4-1 win away to Spezia Calcio, and has two-and-a-half-years remaining on the £176,000-per-week contract signed in 2019.

Everton were linked with interest in Rabiot last summer whilst he faced an uncertain future in Turin, having been placed high on Juventus’ shortlist for potential sales amid needs to balance the books just a year on from joining.

Time to reunite

Everton could end January with the addition of two Juventus midfielders with talks to sign Sami Khedira still said to be underway, but their Director of Football Marcel Brands ought to shelve any plans to land the German and focus his efforts on reuniting Ancelotti with Rabiot.

Rabiot featured just nine times under Ancelotti during the 2012/13 campaign as the midfielder sought to breakthrough into the PSG first-team, but has gone on to become a widely-lauded talent with six Ligue 1 trophies, plus Serie A, French Cup and French Super Cup honours in his trophy cabinet.

The 11-cap France international has also been praised by Italy great Gianluigi Buffon as an “incredible” player, who offers Juventus a real blend of abilities.

“He is a fantastic mix, he has the physical strength of [Paul] Pogba, who is like a wardrobe, has the personality of [Arturo] Vidal and potentially the dynamism of [Claudio] Marchisio,” Buffon told Corriere dello Sport, via quotes by Goal.

“He is incredible, extremely strong. He needs to improve his timing when approaching the opponent’s penalty area, but he can become a player with 10 goals per season.”

Rabiot may have only scored once thus far this season but has contributed 1.0 shots per Serie A game, and would serve as an upgrade on Andre Gomes at Goodison Park with the Everton midfielder taking just 0.2 efforts on goal during Premier League fixtures.

Gomes also offers fewer successful dribbles (1.1 to 1.5), successful tackles (1.1 to 2.3), interceptions (0.1 to 1.7) and duels won both on the ground (2.5 to 4.3) and in the air (0.6 to 1.1), per SofaScore.

Now, Turkish publication Sampiy (via Sport Witness) claim that both Villa and fellow Premier League side Everton are closely interested in signing him, with the centre-back having just been put up for transfer for a fee of around €10m (£9m).

The report adds that Galatasaray are just waiting for an official offer to come in so that they can let him go and reinvest the money in their own side.

Having missed out on his signing in the summer, Johan Lange has got the perfect chance to ensure Villa don’t miss out again by landing Luyindama this time around.

The 6 foot 3 titan has got plenty of experience of playing real top-level football over the years with Galatasaray, competing in both the Champions League and Europa League with the Turkish giants.

And with reports in recent weeks claiming that Bjorn Engels could be set for a return back to his native Belgium after really falling out of favour under Smith this season – he’s made no appearances for Villa whatsoever – a move for Luyindama would offset the loss of the 26-year-old.

If Lange is intent on strengthening Villa’s defence and ensuring Smith has got enough options at centre-back particularly after Engels’ potential departure, then Luyindama’s affordable price and experience makes him a shrewd signing.

Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that Lucas Digne and Alex Iwobi will both be available for Everton’s midweek clash with Leicester City.

The Toffees duo were among a clutch of players to sit out the FA Cup fourth round win over Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday but were expected to be passed fit to face the Foxes.

They will now return to the fold for the visit of Brendan Rodgers’ side to Goodison Park on Wednesday night, as Everton look to move back inside the top-four of the Premier League table with a win.

Everton trail Leicester by six points in the race for Champions League qualification yet hold two games in hand over the East Midlands outfit, after meetings with Manchester City and Aston Villa were postponed due to coronavirus outbreaks in the opposition camps.

Ancelotti will be without a group of his midfield options for the Foxes affair, with the Italian noting that Allan, Fabian Delph and Jean-Philippe Gbamin continue to be ruled out through injury.

Abdoulaye Doucoure will also be absent after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season in this month’s 2-1 win at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

“We have Digne and Iwobi back, and we have out Delph, Allan, Gbamin and [Niels] Nkounkou. The others are all good,” said Ancelotti.

“We don’t have a lot of injuries at this moment because Delph has started to train with us, so practically he is back. We have only Allan, Gbamin and Nkounkou that can recover soon.”

Iwobi scored his first goal of the Premier League season during the 2-1 win at Wolves but faces a challenge to start against Leicester, with James Rodriguez fresh off a Man of the Match showing at home to Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Cup.

Everton will be boosted greatly by the return of Digne, who will now be expected to return to the starting line-up for only the 10th time in the league this season. But the Frenchman’s availability will likely not leave Ben Godfrey feeling the same way.

Godfrey stood in for Digne at left-back in the FA Cup and fared well with his physical nature enough to stand strong in the face of regular defensive duties, yet will find his place in the XI is now under threat.

Ancelotti saw Mason Holgate and Yerry Mina command the centre of the Blues’ backline against Sheffield Wednesday, with Holgate looking the real leader of the unit in the absence of Michael Keane whilst the England international was rested.

The decision on who faces Leicester will be between the trio of Holgate, Mina and Keane, and not Godfrey – who former Toffees striker Kevin Campbell lauded as an “excellent” and versatile option for his impressive efforts while Digne was sidelined after ankle surgery.

Godfrey also offers fewer tackles (1.5/2.0) than Digne (1.9/3.4) when selected as the wide defender, and rarely attempts to carry possession out from the back nearly as much with 0.3 dribbles attempted a game to the Frenchman’s 0.8. Thus forcing Ancelotti to look elsewhere for a driving presence on the left-hand channel that can support Richarlison but get back to defend.
