It’s been one of the worst weeks in Grant Xhaka’s professional career.

The Arsenal captain has come under fire from his own supporters after he was booed off against Crystal Palace, and the gestures he made towards the stands whilst being substituted have seen the fanbase turn on him.

It’s now been confirmed that the midfielder won’t be the matchday squad as the Gunners face Wolves this weekend, so it’s fair to say that his Arsenal future is a bit up in the air.

Will he lose the captaincy? Will he stay at the club? Nobody knows yet, but Mark Noble has advised his fellow Premier League captain on what the best course of action may be.

Indeed, Noble has been talking about what Xhaka should do about his current predicament.

“In all honesty, the best solution might be to tell his agent, ‘Look, they don’t like me here, so maybe it’s best if I go and play somewhere else.’ There would be a lot of takers for him because he is a quality player.” the Hammers skipper said.

A number of Arsenal fans are hoping that the Switzerland international will take Noble’s advice as they clearly don’t want him at the club for much longer.

Rather than defending their man they were quick to say that they hope he leaves.

Leeds United have been struggling for goals this season, and that’s at least partly down to their lack of firepower in the midfield this term.

After 15 matches last campaign, United’s midfielders had contributed to 15 of their 26 goals with Mateusz Klich scoring five of those. However, the goals have dried up this term as Leeds have scored just 19 goals all season, nevermind just from their midfield.

Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem as if those problems will be fixed anytime soon as one of their most important goalscoring midfielders from last term seems to have lost faith in his own abilities.

What’s been said then?

The midfielder spoke in a Q&A session on Thursday evening, and he mentioned how hard it would be for him to match his goal tally from last term.

“It’s going to be difficult to repeat that… I was surprised… but I’m trying my best & to play like last season. The only thing I’m missing is goals because I play a very similar game. I try to cooperate with the front 3.”

Goals may not come

It seems as if Klich thinks his high goal tally from last season was a bit of a fluke, but if he has that attitude when he steps onto the pitch he won’t find the back of the net like he used to.

The Pole scored a number of his ten goals from outside the box last term, which even led to the supporters creating a song about it.

If the 29-year-old doesn’t believe that he can repeat those feats then he’ll either stop taking these shots from range or he’ll hesitate just that split second too long and he’ll be closed down.

His confidence seems to be somewhat thin on the ground and his lack of prowess in front of goal was never more evident than when he missed a penalty against Derby.

Klich needs to change his attitude towards finding the net, or else it might not come for him as it did last season.

Perhaps all it’ll take will be one goal. Either way, he admits reaching the same heights will be difficult.

According to The Sun, several Premier League clubs are chasing West Bromwich Albion prospect Rico Richards, which must feel like an all too similar situation for some at the Hawthorns.

What’s the word?

Reports have emerged claiming that Arsenal, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City, and Liverpool are all eyeing up a move for the 16-year-old forward.

The teenager has recently been training with the Baggies’ U23 squad while he has made two appearances for the U18s, including over the weekend, where he played the full 90 minutes in attacking midfield as they defeated Liverpool 6-3, per Transfermarkt.

He is also able to play on the wing as noted by his former academy manager Mark Harrison in an article that also describes exploits at an international level for England’s U16s in the past.

Richards’ contract expires next year, so the decision-makers at the club will have to soon act on trying to keep hold of one of their most promising youngsters.

Lessons learned?

These links very much have a similar feel to that of Louie Barry and to some extent Morgan Rogers this summer.

Both players were highly-regarded within the club’s youth ranks, yet Albion were powerless to the advances of Barcelona, who Barry rejected a contract for, and Manchester City, who purchased the 17-year-old midfielder for a remarkable £4m.

Richards is the same age as Barry, and although he is yet to start featuring at U18s level fully, he could quite easily match or even better the 16-year-old’s four goals in 16 matches, especially if he’s already bypassed that to train with the next age group up.

It remains to be seen what sort of career Barry will have at the La Liga giants, but that doesn’t mean the club isn’t rueing from the absence of what was one of their brightest prospects.

This emerging saga will truly test whether or not West Brom have learned their lesson as they can’t allow Richards to run down his contract and then leave for ‘free’ like Barry did.

وتحدث رئيس نادي روما، دان فريدكين، عبر بيان رسمي نُشر على الموقع الإلكتروني للعملاق الإيطالي، وقال: “بالنيابة عن الجميع في النادي، نود أن نشكر باولو فونسيكا على العمل الجاد الذي ظهر به خلال العامين الماضيين”.

وتابع: “قاد باولو الفريق خلال العديد من التحديات، في ظل جائحة فيروس كورونا وتغيير ملكية نادي روما، نتمنى له كل التوفيق في مستقبله ونحن على ثقة في قدراته الفنية ونجاحه أينما ذهب”.

وكان آخر فريق قد قاده فونسيكا قبل روما هو شاختار دونتسيك في عام 2019 وفاز معه ببطولة الدوري الأوكراني 3 مرات لكنه لم يفوز بأي لقب مع النادي الإيطالي.

الجدير بالذكر أن روما كان قد سقط أمام مانشستر يونايتد في ذهاب نصف نهائي الدوري الأوروبي يوم، الخميس الماضي، بنتيجة 6-2 وأصبحت فرصته شبه مستحيلة في بلوغ نهائي البطولة القارية قبل الإياب في إيطاليا.

أصدر الاتحاد الأوروبي لكرة القدم “يويفا” بيانًا رسميًا يعلن معاقبة 9 أندية من أصل 12 ناديا شاركت في السوبر ليج.

وشاركت أندية ريال مدريد وبرشلونة وأتلتيكو مدريد، ويوفنتوس وميلان وإنتر ميلان، ومانشستر يونايتد ومانشستر سيتي وآرسنال وتشيلسي وتوتنهام وليفربول، في دوري السوبر ليج.

عقب ذلك انسحبت الأندية الإنجليزية الستة وأتلتيكو مدريد وإنتر ميلان وميلان، واستمرت الأندية الثلاث الباقية مدعمة المشروع.

“يويفا” أوضح معاقبة أندية ليفربول ومانشستر يونايتد ومانشستر سيتي وآرسنال وتشيلسي وتوتنهام وأتلتيكو مدريد وميلان وإنتر ميلان بخفض 5% من عائداتهم الأوروبية لمدة موسم واحد، بالإضافة للتبرع بـ 15 مليون يورو لكرة القدم الشعبية والأطفال والشباب، وسيتم تغريمهم 100 مليون يورو إذا حاولوا الانفصال مرة أخرى عن دوري الأبطال.

والأندية الثلاث الذين لم يتم ذكرها في العقوبة هي ريال مدريد، برشلونة ويوفنتوس وسيخضعون لإجراءات تأديبية من اليويفا حال استكمالهم لمشروع السوبر ليج.

وجاء بيان اليويفا كالتالي

“بروح المصالحة، ولصالح كرة القدم الأوروبية، قدمت تسعة من الأندية الـ 12 المشاركة في ما يسمى بمشروع “الدوري الممتاز” إلى الاتحاد الأوروبي لكرة القدم “إعلان التزام الأندية” الذي يحدد موقف الأندية، بما في ذلك التزامها إلى مسابقات أندية يويفا وكذلك مسابقات الأندية الوطنية.

عقد الاتحاد الأوروبي لكرة القدم “يويفا” لجنة طارئة من لجنته التنفيذية، والتي أخذت في الاعتبار روح ومحتوى إعلان التزام النادي وقرر الموافقة على مختلف الإجراءات والتدابير والالتزامات التي قدمتها الأندية.

تم الاتفاق على تأكيد رسمي للالتزامات وطريقة إعادة دمج الأندية ومشاركتها في مسابقات يويفا للأندية ووقعها الاتحاد الأوروبي لكرة القدم وتلك الأندية التسعة، تدابير إعادة الإدماج المعتمدة كاملة ونهائية.

تقر هذه الأندية التسعة وتقبل أن مشروع الدوري الممتاز كان خطأ وتعتذر للجماهير والاتحادات الوطنية والبطولات الوطنية والأندية الأوروبية الزميلة والاتحاد الأوروبي لكرة القدم، وقد أدركوا أيضًا أن المشروع لم يكن ليُصرح به بموجب قوانين ولوائح الاتحاد الأوروبي لكرة القدم.

على وجه الخصوص، كل نادي:

يقر ويقبل دون تحفظ الطبيعة الملزمة لقوانين الاتحاد الأوروبي لكرة القدم.

لا يزال ملتزمًا وسيشارك في أي مسابقات يويفا للأندية في كل موسم يتأهل لها هذا النادي على أساس الجدارة الرياضية.

سوف ينضم مجددًا إلى اتحاد الأندية الأوروبية، وهو الهيئة التمثيلية الوحيدة للأندية التي يعترف بها الاتحاد الأوروبي لكرة القدم.

سيتخذون جميع الخطوات في حدود سلطتهم بهدف إنهاء مشاركتهم في الشركة التي تم تأسيسها لتشكيل وتشغيل السوبر ليج وإيقاف أي إجراءات قانونية قائمة ذات صلة.

سيخضعون لحجز 5٪ من الإيرادات التي كانوا سيحصلون عليها من مسابقات أندية يويفا لموسم واحد، والتي سيتم إعادة توزيعها.

الموافقة على فرض غرامات كبيرة إذا سعوا للعب في مثل هذه المنافسة غير المصرح بها (100 مليون يورو) أو إذا خالفوا أي التزام آخر دخلوا فيه في إعلان التزام النادي (50 مليون يورو).

ستوفر التزامات فردية ليويفا حيث يتم قبول جميع المبادئ والقيم المنصوص عليها في مذكرة التفاهم لعام 2019 بين الاتحاد الأوروبي لكرة القدم ورابطة الأندية الأوروبية.

للمضي قدمًا، تلتزم الأندية تمامًا بإصلاحات هوريزون الجديدة لما بعد 2024، بناءً على طلب الأندية، سيطلب الاتحاد الأوروبي لكرة القدم ويدعم أن تولي الاتحادات الوطنية والاتحادات المحلية الاعتبار الواجب لروح ومحتوى وهدف الالتزامات التي قدمتها الأندية إلى الاتحاد الأوروبي لكرة القدم”.

نشر “يويفا” أيضًا تصريحات ألكسندر تشيفيرين، رئيس الاتحاد الأوروبي لكرة القدم وقال: “قلت في مؤتمر يويفا قبل أسبوعين إن الأمر يتطلب منظمة قوية للاعتراف بارتكاب خطأ خاصة في أيام المحاكمة هذه على وسائل التواصل الاجتماعي، هذه الأندية فعلت ذلك بالضبط”.

وأضاف: “بقبول التزاماتهم واستعدادهم لإصلاح الاضطراب الذي تسببوا فيه، يريد الاتحاد الأوروبي لكرة القدم وضع هذا الفصل وراءه والمضي قدمًا بروح إيجابية”.

وتابع تشيفيرين: “الإجراءات التي تم الإعلان عنها كبيرة، ولكن لن يتم الإبقاء على أي من العقوبات المالية من قبل الاتحاد الأوروبي لكرة القدم، سيتم إعادة استثمارهم جميعًا في كرة القدم للشباب والقاعدية في المجتمعات المحلية في جميع أنحاء أوروبا، بما في ذلك المملكة المتحدة”.

وأكد: “أدركت هذه الأندية أخطائها بسرعة واتخذت إجراءات لإظهار ندمها والتزامها المستقبلي تجاه كرة القدم الأوروبية، لا يمكن قول الشيء نفسه بالنسبة للأندية التي لا تزال تشارك في ما يسمى بـ “الدوري الممتاز” وسيتعامل الاتحاد الأوروبي لكرة القدم مع تلك الأندية لاحقًا”.

وأوضح “يويفا” الأندية التسعة التي وافقت على الإجراء وهم: 

الأندية التالية مغطاة ووافقت على هذه الإجراءات:

آرسنال.

ميلان.

تشيلسي.

أتليتكو مدريد.

إنتر ميلان.

ليفربول.

مانشستر سيتي.

مانشستر يونايتد.

توتنهام.

بالإضافة إلى ذلك، احتفظ الاتحاد الأوروبي لكرة القدم بجميع الحقوق لاتخاذ أي إجراء يراه مناسبًا ضد تلك الأندية التي رفضت حتى الآن التخلي عن ما يسمى “الدوري الممتاز”.

سيتم إحالة الأمر على الفور إلى الهيئات التأديبية المختصة في الاتحاد الأوروبي لكرة القدم.

Aston Villa’s Chief Executive Officer Christian Purslow has played an influential role in the club’s current direction under new owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens, but the 55-year-old has been speaking out regarding the latest updates to VAR in the 2019/20 Premier League campaign.

What did he say?

Following the news that Villa, Everton and two other clubs raised concerns over the way VAR was being used, Purslow said the following after a meeting on Thursday:

“They’ve [Premier League clubs] got grave concerns but so has everyone in the room. We’ve had a very robust discussion and the message has got through to the league and to the referees association that fans are unhappy and many other stakeholders in the game think we’ve got to do a whole lot better.

“I expect to see real improvements in the speed of decisions [VAR], the consistency, which is what everybody craves. I think above else for all else for those of us in-stadia we want much better communication for what’s going on before, during and after.”

Can VAR be enhanced for the benefit of the top-flight?

Despite VAR chief Neil Swarbrick rating the latest technology in the Premier League as a “seven out of ten”, there can be no doubting that fundamental flaws remain in the overall operation.

The issues that Purslow cites including “consistency” stand out as one of VAR’s biggest flaws, yet if collaboration can occur between the “stakeholders” that the Villa CEO refers to, it is unlikely that the current situation is beyond a state of repair.

Although Villa have been on the receiving end of a number of refereeing decisions relating to VAR, including Kevin Friend disallowing a Jack Grealish equaliser at Crystal Palace as well as Conor Hourihane’s strike against Brighton being ruled out despite no evident infringement, Purslow’s comments reflect a wider perspective on the shortcomings of the technology so far this season.

It will be vital for VAR to progress and the rating that Swarbrick alludes to should move higher, but taking on board the feedback that the likes of Purslow have provided on behalf of their clubs will be vital if the system is to improve in the current campaign. 

Well, it would be fair to say that the Everton fans were not exactly delighted with what they saw from Gylfi Sigurdsson on Saturday afternoon.

According to WhoScored, the Iceland international only boasted a pass success rate of 72% as he struggled to influence matters in the number 10 position.

The afternoon belonged to Norwich City as the Canaries recorded a 2-0 victory courtesy of goals from Todd Cantwell and Dennis Srbeny.

Sigurdsson has really struggled to make an impact this season, scoring once and providing just one assist in the Premier League.

And a number of Everton supporters have taken to social media to criticise the 30-year-old, who actually found the back of the net on 13 occasions in the Premier League during the 2018/19 campaign.

Mundo Deportivo have recently come out with a report outlining Barcelona’s planned signings for 2020 and Chelsea’s Andreas Christensen was mentioned as one of the players the Catalans have been following.

What’s the word, then?

As per the same source’s report, the club will prioritise a centre-back, a right-back and a striker in the upcoming transfer windows and one of the names that is currently interesting the Blaugrana is Christensen.

The now 23-year-old might not be a priority for now but Mundo Deportivo mention that Barcelona have been following him for quite some time and he seems to be someone they like.

Even though there is potential behind Chelsea’s young defender, he is actually not someone they should be targeting at all.

When it comes to young centre-backs, the Blaugrana are definitely well-covered and pretty safe for the future.

Pointless exercise

Christensen is definitely one of the talents for the future.

So far this season, however, he hasn’t played a major role at Chelsea under Frank Lampard’s stern but just hand.

The Dane started the 2019/20 season pretty strong, playing the full 90 minutes in the opening couple of clashes. However, his game time started dipping as a result of injuries and Lampard simply benching the young centre-back.

It remains to be seen what kind of a role will he be given by his coach in the remainder of the campaign but let’s not forget that this is a player that was once tipped to become Chelsea’s next captain by their former manager, Antoine Conte.

Speaking in February 2018, the Italian said: “I trust Christensen. I think this player is the present and also for the future for Chelsea. He can also become the captain of this team.”

But even with that being said, Barcelona currently have four centre-backs in their squad, one of which is the 19-year-old Jean-Clair Todibo, who could suffer with Christensen’s potential arrival.

Not to mention that the Catalans have a couple of promising defenders in their B team that could potentially make a step-up in the not so distant future.

If they really want to strengthen the backline, maybe going for a more developed and safe option rather than bringing in another young talent is the better option.

But as it currently stands, even that might not be of such importance at the moment.
