Rangers fans crucify Goldson’s recent form

[ad_pod ]

Loads of Rangers fans have been reacting to Thursday’s Europa League defeat, and they can’t quite believe how bad Connor Goldson was.

Rangers were on the wrong end of an absolutely thrilling encounter on Thursday night, losing 4-3 in Moscow.

Spartak got a 0-0 draw from Ibrox in the return fixture, and the Russian outfit are now level on points with the Gers with two games to go.

It looked to be the perfect away performance at first, as an own goal gave Steven Gerrard’s side an early lead.

Daniel Candeias answered immediately after the hosts equalised, only for Goldson to score at the wrong end to make it 2-2.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”328949″ player=”12034″ title=”Watch The Fantasy Football Show English strikers & Captain Picks”]

Glenn Middleton then scored his first European goal to give the Gers a half time lead, but the defending in the second half was truly shambolic.

Luiz Adriano and Sofiane Hanni scored after the break to make it 4-3, and Goldson really should have done better for both goals.

The 25 year-old was exceptional at the beginning of the season, but fans are absolutely crucifying his recent performances.

Lee Charnley should sanction Dwight Gayle’s Newcastle exit, but only on one condition

According to a recent report from The Birmingham Mail, Dwight Gayle is open to leaving Newcastle United permanently in the near future. The Englishman is currently playing his football at Championship side West Brom after securing a loan move at the start of the season, and with the 28-year-old producing some mightily impressive displays at the Hawthorns, it appears that he could well seek to stay there permanently come the end of the campaign.

And with Gayle himself reportedly open to the idea of staying at the Midlands outfit, it leaves Newcastle and managing director Lee Charnley with something to think about over the coming months, as while they should seek to sanction Gayle’s departure, they must only do so on the condition that they get Baggies striker Salomon Rondon in return.

The Breakdown

Ultimately, the duo swapped clubs during the close season with Rondon making the move to St James’ Park to bolster Rafa Benitez’s striking ranks, and thus give the Spaniard the sort of striker he needed to lead the Magpies line in the top-flight this term.

And with Gayle proving to ultimately not be up to scratch in the Premier League, having scored on just six occasions last round, but very much a prolific goal-scorer at Championship level, it’s a move which made complete sense for both parties.

And based on the pair’s respective efforts so far this term, both teams are reaping the rewards from such decision given Gayle has netted nine goals in just 14 appearances for Darren Moore’s side this season, while Rondon produced his best display in a Newcastle shirt in bagging twice in their 2-1 win over Bournemouth last time out.

As such, it’s clear that both teams are enjoying the services of their loan signings and ultimately not missing the other particularly greatly, which makes a possible permanent deal for Gayle come the end of the season very much a possibility – and while Newcastle should sanction that, they must only do so if they get Rondon in return.

The Venezuela international offers a great deal more as an all round striker in Benitez’s team than Gayle does, with the 29-year-old strong aerially and able to hold the ball up to bring others into play, while he also has that eye for goal having scored at least eight goals in each of his three full seasons at West Brom.

And with Gayle as good a striker at Championship level as any, as illustrated by his tally of 23 goals the season Newcastle won the division, alongside the fact he has scored more already this term in the second tier than he did last season in the top-flight, he’s simply not what Newcastle are after in the final third of the pitch.

And with the £9 million-rated man (as per Transfermarkt) seemingly open to the idea of remaining at the Hawthorns beyond his loan spell, it’s a deal Charnley should sanction, but only on the condition that they receive Rondon permanently in return.

Liverpool fans criticise Sterling’s performance for England

[ad_pod ]

It is safe to say that most Liverpool fans have failed to move on from Raheem Sterling’s controversial exit three years ago.

The 23-year-old decided to abandon the Merseyside outfit for pastures new in a big-money move to Manchester City.

Since making the jump, Sterling has won the Premier League title and the League Cup, and he is fighting against Liverpool for another English crown this season.

A sense of bitterness still remains in the hearts of some Reds supporters, and that was evident on Sunday when the winger represented England.

Sterling played the full 90 minutes of the Three Lions’ 2-1 victory over Croatia in a Nations League encounter at Wembley.

The attack-minded star has before struggled to recreate his club form on the international stage, and plenty of Liverpool fans were unimpressed by his efforts.

So far this season, Sterling has scored seven goals and created five assists in 15 outings in all competitions.

Everton fans have Marco Silva to thank for Richarlison’s amazing rise

Everton supporters have been in fine voice in recent times after seeing their side pick up a credible draw in their most recent Premier League encounter.

Marco Silva’s men went into their clash with unbeaten Chelsea at Stamford Bridge off the back of beating Brighton 3-1 in their previous league meeting, and thus were full of confidence ahead of their trip to West London. And the Toffees made the journey back to Merseyside with a hard-earned and deserved point following a 0-0 draw with Maurizio Sarri’s team, a result which keeps Silva’s side in ninth place in the Premier League table.

As such, there have been many satisfied Evertonians up and down the country in recent times, several of whom have taken to Twitter recently to heap praise on Richarlison after he netted again for Brazil in their 1-0 friendly win over Cameroon on Tuesday.

And many of those supporters were in disbelief at just how meteoric the 21-year-old’s rise has been in the last year or so, with manager Silva the man to thank for not only unearthing a gem at Watford, but backing him to produce the goods by signing him at Everton.

Ultimately, it was the 41-year-old who brought the unknown Richarlison to English football when in charge at Vicarage Road last year, and with it came a player full of ability and potential just waiting to show the Premier League what he could do.

And what a start he made to life in English football’s top-flight in netting five goals and five assists in his first 17 Premier League appearances for the Hornets, which itself unsurprisingly promoted speculation about a big-money move – this all after just a few months at Watford.

Yes, things tailed off somewhat for the Brazilian given he then failed to score or even register an assist again for the Hornets, but it’s no coincidence that all his best football at Watford came under Silva, the man who then backed him greatly by luring him to Everton for a staggering amount of money.

There were a few eyebrows raised when the Toffees splashed out £50 million on the 21-year-old given his quiet second half of last season, but Silva obviously knew how he could get the best out of Richarlison to thus make it a worthwhile and shrewd addition – and he’s once again produced the goods.

And that’s because the Brazilian star, who has won his first senior caps for his country this season, has been absolutely magnificent in scoring six goals and laying on one assist in ten Premier League games for the Toffees – be it out wide or upfront in the main striker’s role, Richarlison has excelled.

Obviously, the big question is whether or not he can maintain this form and not drift away like he did last term, but with Silva clearly the man who knows how to get the best out of him, that doesn’t appear likely to happen.

Thus, while Richarlison himself obviously deserves huge credit for developing into the star that he has been during his time in English football, Silva has played as big a part as anyone in enabling him to become the player he is, and potentially go on to be the player that his potential suggests he can be.

The amazement of those Everton fans is hardly surprising, Richarlison’s rise has been meteoric, and there is one man in particular to thank for that, namely Toffees chief Silva.

Revealed: 73% of Everton fans want to sign Brahimi in January

[ad_pod ]

Plenty of Everton fans have been giving their verdict on the links to Porto winger Yacine Brahimi, and 73 per cent of fans think they should make a move in January.

According to The Express, Everton could be set to launch a bid for Brahimi this January.

The Algerian international, who has scored 44 goals and added 36 assists in 182 Porto appearances, will be out of contract next summer.

This puts Marcel Brands and Everton in a very strong negotiating position in January, but also means they won’t be the only team sniffing around.

[brid autoplay=”true” video=”326259″ player=”12034″ title=”Liverpool Or Chelsea For The Title Forget it!”]

The 28 year-old usually plays on the left wing, but pace and skill could be utilised from either flank, so he could be a replacement for Theo Walcott.

The Toffees’ attack has improved massively under Marco Silva, but Walcott has just two goals to his name so far this campaign.

Brahimi’s dazzling skill and excellent vision would help create loads of chances for Richarlison, who has been an absolute revelation as a central striker.

73 per cent of fans are backing a move for the Algerian, and you can view the full poll results down below…

Gestede has to be first to go from Boro in January

Middlesbrough have made it no secret that they are looking to recruit attackers this January.

This has long been a concern for manager Tony Pulis, as the club have looked solid defensively, but failed to impress in the final third of the pitch. This is clear when looking at the Championship table, with Boro having the most solid defence (conceding four fewer goals than the next best team), but with only four teams scoring fewer than them this season. For a team that are in the top four, that is a shocking statistic, and one that must be remedied.

While some people will argue that it is the style that Pulis adopts, rather than the personnel at the club, there are certainly some players that are not up to scratch at The Riverside, and one of them is Rudy Gestede. While it is unfair to judge the Benin international this season, as he has been plagued by injuries, his form last season was enough to show that he is not good enough for a team chasing promotion.

If he was fit, Gestede’s inefficiencies may have been more prominent this season had forwards Britt Assombalonga and Jordan Hugill not appeared to be in good form. The former made a great start to the season, while the latter is coming into good form now.

While Hugill isn’t a permanent deal in the northeast yet, the club should still look to unload of Gestede in January, and look to use the money to recruit a player that brings a bit more dynamism and attacking potency. If Boro want to be promoted, this looks like a necessity.

Opinion: Liverpool should make a move for Aaron Wan-Bissaka to replace Nathaniel Clyne

[ad_pod ]

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp should make a move for Crystal Palace youngster Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the January transfer window to solve his recent problems at right-back.

What’s the situation?

The German boss was forced to bring on centre-back Dejan Lovren at right-back in the closing stages of the win over Napoli on Tuesday evening, and it nearly cost Liverpool their place in the Champions League round of 16 as he lost Arkadiusz Milik, only to be saved by goalkeeper Alisson.

Klopp will be hoping that Trent Alexander-Arnold’s foot injury is nothing serious, as he also lost Joe Gomez for six weeks in the recent win over Burnley. However, even when the former Charlton man is back to full fitness, a move for a right-back would be worthwhile so that Gomez can remain as a centre-back – where he is becoming a top player.

The only other natural option in the Liverpool squad is Nathaniel Clyne, but the 27-year-old has had a torrid time with injuries in recent years and he is out once again at the moment. If patience is running thin we wouldn’t be surprised to see him moved on in the coming transfer windows.

Competition for places

The Reds then should look at signing youngster Wan-Bissaka, who has impressed so far this season despite being in a struggling Crystal Palace side.

Playmaker FC Exclusive: Jermaine Jenas reveals he would have snubbed Tottenham for Arsenal if they’d come knocking in 2005…

The England U21 international has played 18 times in all competitions for the Eagles so far in this campaign, providing two assists in the process. He has proved himself to be a hard-worker and extremely adept defender though, meaning he could even be picked ahead of Alexander-Arnold in big games due to his defensive solidity.

With a contract at Selhurst Park until 2022, the 21-year-old would certainly not come cheap. However, he could be considered the perfect replacement for Clyne and would provide long-term competition for Alexander-Arnold.

So, Liverpool fans, would you support a move for Wan-Bissaka? Have your say by voting in the poll below.

Newcastle could be making a huge mistake by signing MLS star Miguel Almiron for big money

[ad_pod ]

Newcastle United could be taking a huge risk if they splash out on Atlanta phenomenon Miguel Almiron who, according to the Mirror, will cost upwards of £30m for any club interested in signing him.

What’s the word, then?

The Magpies have been tailing the Paraguayan for a while now, and are reportedly very close if journalist Bruno Pont is to be believed – he has almost 400,000 Twitter followers, so he may know what he’s talking about and would most likely not be tweeting out rubbish.

The same journalist also revealed that the 24-year-old MLS sensation prefers the Magpies to other English clubs who are currently courting him, as per the player’s father.

This is arguably the biggest transfer saga in the Tynesiders’ recent history, and may finally see them break their transfer record since it was last smashed on bringing Michael Owen to St James’ Park for £16m over 13 years ago.

It would certainly be a surprising move for Rafa Benitez, as he has barely been backed by Mike Ashley since stepping foot in Newcastle – however, this big-money move does come with its risks.

What could go wrong?

Well, on the brighter side of things, Almiron appears to be a hugely talented player with the world at his feet having just won the ‘MLS Cup’ with Atlanta, after hitting 13 goals and recording 11 assists in 37 starts – truly astounding numbers.

However, it must be asked. When was the last time a player made the jump from MLS football to a league as demanding as the Premier League? I certainly can’t think of one. The more common pattern is that players make the switch from a top league to America’s top-flight as they look to wind down their playing days, such as David Beckham, Thierry Henry, Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard did, and so on.

Almiron does look a tremendous player, and there is no doubting he is one of America’s best, but is Major League Soccer comparable to the gritty nature of England’s top-flight?

For the rumoured fees being thrown around, coupled with the fact that Newcastle are in a relegation battle, added to the fact that this could be the only money Benitez gets to spend for a while (and breathe), is it wise for the Magpies to spend all their pocket money in one place?

West Ham must join the race for Tagliafico

A number of Premier League clubs have been linked with Ajax left-back Nicolás Tagliafico in recent weeks, including Arsenal and Newcastle, according to Italian outlet Calciomercato.

The Gunners apparently launched an £8m bid for the Argentinian, but this should be a chance for West Ham to throw their hat in the ring as well.

There’s no debating that Arsenal are looking sparse when it comes the left-backs at the moment, particularly with the ageing Nacho Monreal being injured. While they do indeed need a new fullback, there is an argument that West Ham are in a greater need for one.

West Ham’s first choice left-back currently is Aaron Cresswell, and while the England international is certainly a good option to have, injury has limited him so far to just five starts in the Premier League this season. In his absence, manager Manuel Pellegrini has turned to Arthur Masuaku, who, for all his talent going forward, leaves a lot to be desired in defence.

The Hammers are currently ninth in the Premier League at the moment, and touching distance from sixth place Man United. Any team that are realistically hoping to challenge for European places would ideally not want a player like the Congo international playing as regularly as he has.

That is why Tagliafico would be the perfect competitor for Cresswell at the London Stadium. The 26-year-old has looked highly impressive for Ajax so far this season, helping them qualify for the next stage of the Champions League. He has a real attacking flair, and could well help star man Marko Arnautović reach a new level with his delivery into the box.

Arsenal would probably still be the frontrunners to land the Argentina international, but if there is a chance that West Ham could hijack this deal, they should.

Arsenal fans want club to sign West Ham forward Felipe Anderson

Arsenal fans are in awe of West Ham forward Felipe Anderson, after the Brazilian earned the Man of the Match award against Southampton.

The 25-year-old sensation joined the Irons in the summer from Serie A outfit Lazio in a deal worth £36million, making the left-winger the east London side’s club-record purchase.

In contrast, the Gunners opted against strengthening their wings, and instead focused on finally improving the goalkeeper, centre-backs and defensive midfield options through Bernd Leno, Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Lucas Torreira.

Check out the video below for Emma Conybeare’s rundown of which clubs need what in the January transfer window…

Anderson caught the attention of Arsenal supporters on Thursday night, however, when the Brazilian bagged a brace at Southampton to overturn Nathan Redmond’s opener in a six-minute blitz on the Saints defence.

The 5 foot 9 Santa Maria native also dribbled past two Southampton defenders, completed 40 accurate passes and found the target with 80% of his efforts to earn WhoScored’s Man of the Match award with a 9.1 rating.

His goals ensured the Hammers left with all the points, and moved three clear of Marko Arnautovic as the club’s top goalscorer in the Premier League with eight.

Anderson also holds West Ham’s best average rating after 19 games, with a 7.37 average, leading to some Arsenal fans pleading on social media for their club to snatch the one-time Brazil international before it’s too late.
