Although Newcastle have endured a slow start to their Premier League campaign, Sunday’s meeting with Arsenal represents the perfect opportunity for the Magpies to truly get going. Howe’s side have had the Gunners’ number in the past and there’s no doubt that St James’ Park will be rocking after the manager called for “aggression” from his players.

Of course, what could help get the best out of Newcastle’s big-money signing is a trip back into the transfer market. And that could see the Magpies swoop in ahead of Chelsea to sign a Champions League captain.
Newcastle join Manuel Locatelli race
As reported by Caught Offside, Newcastle have now joined the race to sign Manuel Locatelli from Juventus alongside Premier League rivals Chelsea. The Italian giants are naturally reluctant to sell their captain, but accept that an offer in the region of €40m (£35m) is likely to leave them with little choice next year.
Newcastle’s starting midfield is one of the strongest that the Premier League has to offer, but the quality beyond that may be a slight concern for those at St James’ Park. The addition of Locatelli would solve that problem.

سلطت تقارير صحفية الضوء على الإصابة القوية التي تعرض لها بيدري، نجم خط وسط الفريق الأول لكرة القدم بنادي برشلونة بعد مباراة الكلاسيكو أمام ريال مدريد.
ويعاني برشلونة الفترة الماضية من إصابات عديدة أثرت على ظهوره في المباريات الأخيرة، ولا سيما اللقاء الأخير أمام ريال مدريد في كلاسيكو الدوري الإسباني.
وخسر برشلونة بثنائية مقابل هدف في المباراة التي جمعتهما ضمن منافسات الجولة العاشرة من بطولة الدوري الإسباني “لا ليجا”.
وكان برشلونة قد أعلن صباح أمس، الأربعاء، إصابة بيدري بتمزق في العضلة ذات الرأسين الفخذية الطرفية في فخذه الأيسر، وكشفت صحيفة “آس” أن مدة غيابه ستصل إلى شهر ونصف.

وأتم أن على بيدري وإدارة برشلونة الصبر حتى لا يحدث أي انتكاسة مرة أخرى وتتكرر الإصابة لأنه حتى مع استخدام أجهزة متطورة لقراءة حالة اللاعب البدنية وGPS، قد تحدث بعض الإصابات أو الانتكاسات بطرق غير متوقعة.

The same could be said for one of the academy’s best goalscorers: Josh Landers.
The 18-year-old Scotsman joined the Hammers from Hibernian in February of this year and, as one analyst puts it, as one analyst puts it, has “hit the ground running.”
So far this season, the Innerleithen-born gem has already scored five goals in five appearances, totalling 269 minutes for the U21s, which is a goal every 53.8 minutes.

For example, since joining the Irons’ academy set-up, the youngster has made 39 appearances across the U18s and U21s, of which 14 have been in central midfield and nine in defensive midfield.
Moreover, on top of his defensive sensibilities, the exciting prospect is capable of chipping in with goal involvements as well, with him scoring three and providing seven assists in his career so far.
Finally, he is also seen as a player who could genuinely make it into the first team, and not just be a part of the squad, but really thrive.
For example, on top of featuring in pre-season, he has also received praise from Bowen, who described him as a “special player” and went on to tell the club’s website that he’s “never seen someone nutmeg so many people in training.”

Jofra Archer picked up a wicket on his return to red-ball cricket after a 1,501-day hiatus, as a half-century from Colin Ackermann helped Durham fight back on day two of their Rothesay County Championship clash with Sussex.James Coles picked up where he left off for Sussex in the morning and took his side to a competitive total of 361 all out, with him finishing unbeaten on 148.Durham’s response against a Sussex bowling attack which included Archer, got off to a good start, making it to lunch without loss, but they lost skipper Alex Lees just after the break.Archer, whose previous first-class match had come against Kent at Hove in May 2021, then came into the attack and struck during an exciting spell to leave Durham in a spot of bother in the afternoon.However, Durham bounced back in the evening through a partnership worth 76 between Ackermann and Graham Clark, but the loss of Ackermann with the last ball of the day gives Sussex the edge, with Durham on 249 for five and the deficit still 112.Resuming on 322 for nine, unbeaten centurion Coles and number 11 Gurinder Sandhu were at the crease for Sussex.Coles continued to play nicely as he produced a delightful shot down the ground off the bowling of Bas de Leede.Coles then used his feet to launch one down the ground from George Drissell, but the spinner wrapped up the innings just three balls later, bowling Sandhu for eight, leaving Coles unbeaten on 148.Alex Lees and Emilio Gay were tasked with kicking off Durham’s response and they started in a serene manner.Archer then came into the attack and nearly had Gay with his first ball, but Lees was finding things a bit easier as he played a nice on-drive off the bowling of Sandhu which went to the boundary.Gay, who initially found life tough against Archer, managed to break the shackles with two boundaries, one through point and the other off his legs.
