West Ham United have been told that a "wonderful talent" at Newcastle would suit David Moyes down to the ground.

The Irons are currently enjoying their international break, having started the Premier League season brightly with four wins from a possible eight. West Ham are sitting pretty near the European qualification spots, and while it is of course too early to make any real judgements, this is exactly where Moyes hopes to be nearer the end of 2023/2024.

Impressive results against the likes of Chelsea, high-flying Brighton and in-form Newcastle perhaps highlight that West Ham supporters can go further into the campaign with some expectation. Their impressive run in Europe, where they have gone 17 matches unbeaten, is also something to be very positive about. They appear to be building upon their Conference League triumph in Prague last term, and West Ham recently secured the long-term future of star winger Jarrod Bowen.

Speaking after their latest league encounter, Moyes also revealed his delight at how the last month has gone.

"I always knew in between the international breaks that we had four games which were Manchester City, Liverpool, Sheffield United and Newcastle, so it was always going to be hard to take too many points," said the Scotsman to West Ham's official website.

"In my head, I thought ‘if we can get four points from those games, that won’t be too bad’, but obviously I was hoping to get more. In between, we had a couple of cup wins as well, which helped, so I’m quite pleased with the way the last month has gone."

Who could West Ham sign in January?

While results on the pitch have been positive, there are reports that West Ham are targeting a new defender to bolster their ranks. The uncertainty surrounding both Nayef Aguerd and Kurt Zouma has resulted in rumoured interest for both Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba and AC Milan ace Malick Thiaw, while Chelsea starlet Ian Maatsen could also come in to reinforce Moyes' full-back options.

The full-back area is apparently a position Moyes wishes to strengthen, with pundit Frank McAvennie sharing who he'd really love at West Ham in that regard. The former Irons striker, speaking to West Ham Zone, says that he'a big fan of Newcastle United star Kieran Trippier, calling the Englishman a "wonderful talent" and suggesting he'd suit Moyes down to the ground.

“Kieran Trippier, what a player he is. I would love him to be at West Ham," said McAvennie this week.

“He’s a wonderful talent. A good defender, great on the ball and his free-kicks and crossing are brilliant. What a pity.”

Trippier has been incredible since joining Newcastle from Atletico Madrid, with talkSPORT pundit Simon Jordan also heaping praise on the defender (via Geordie Boot Boys).

“People like Kieran Trippier have been outstanding,” said Jordan.

“People make this observation that I said he was only going for the money. I didn’t say that. I said he wouldn’t be going there if there wasn’t the prerequisite amount of money and opportunity.

“But notwithstanding that, he has been an absolute revelation.”

All three were handed severe bans by Cricket Australia.On the day of the ball tampering, Smith and Bancroft fronted a press conference where the captain said it had been a decision made by the team’s leaders. O garoto chegou ao seu 17º gol em 2020 e já superou os artilheiros do Tricolor nas últimas quatro temporadas, tendo ainda mais de 20 partidas pela frente.

Reserva do São Paulo durante a maior parte deste ano, Brenner assumiu a titularidade recentemente. Nas últimas 11 partidas, o garoto anotou 13 gols e disparou na liderança da artilharia. Os números são suficientes para superar Pablo na última temporada, Diego Souza em 2018, Lucas Pratto em 2017, e o argentino Calleri (artilheiro da Copa Libertadores) em 2016.

Os números apenas não são melhores do que os de Alexandre Pato, em 2015. Naquela ocasião, o atacante marcou 26 gols. Contudo, Pato precisou de 59 partidas para alcançar a marca, o que lhe dá uma média de 0,44 gols por jogo. A versão 2020 do garoto Brenner chegou aos 17 gols em 26 jogos. Portanto, com uma média superior, de 0,65 gols por partida na temporada.

Importante ressaltar que o São Paulo ainda tem, no mínimo, mais 22 jogos até o fim do Campeonato Brasileiro, em fevereiro. O Tricolor tem mais 18 jogos do segundo turno da competição nacional, três partidas do primeiro turno a serem disputadas e encara o Flamengo na Copa do Brasil. Since he made 56 against Kolkata Knight Riders on April 10, Billings has scraped just 78 in runs in his last 12 innings – 10 of them in three innings for Kent. His latest failure came in England’s embarrassing defeat by Scotland on Sunday when he slapped a full toss to midwicket.In Billings’ absence, Adam Rouse has performed admirably behind the stumps and vice-captain Joe Denly has led the side to three successive Championship wins. Manchester United are going through somewhat of a Jekyll and Hyde campaign under Erik ten Hag, winning just half of their Premier League matches thus far while struggling in the Champions League.

The Dutchman is still looking to get his summer signings firing as the likes of Mason Mount and Andre Onana haven’t exactly enjoyed the most productive of starts to their careers at United.

It isn’t just the new arrivals who are failing to hit the ground running, as Marcus Rashford has scored just once across all competitions, failing to replicate last season’s wonderful form in which he netted 30 times in total.

The former Ajax boss is having to rely on Bruno Fernandes yet again to be his main creative output and the Portuguese attacking midfielder has already racked up four goal contributions in ten matches.

The 29-year-old is arguably at his peak, yet the Red Devils won't have him forever and Ten Hag may need to think about potential heirs to his throne.

He could of course delve into the transfer market for a replacement when the time comes, or the 53-year-old could turn to the academy, where Shola Shoretire has been sparkling in the same position for the U21 side this term.

How good is Shola Shoretire?

The 19-year-old has been at Old Trafford since the age of nine and signed his first professional contract back in 2021 having clearly impressed the hierarchy of his potential.

Journalist Daniel Brown hailed Shoretire as a “wonderful talent” and as someone who “has all the qualities needed to be successful in the senior game” following a two-goal salvo against Chelsea for the U21s last season, and he has shone during the 2023/24 campaign.

The youngster has already managed to register three goals and three assists and while operating in an attacking midfield role, Shoretire has scored twice and grabbed three assists, indicating that it could be his most effective position.

His attacking qualities shouldn’t be underestimated as the Englishman has netted 29 times while registering 22 assists across spells at U21, U19 and U18 level and these statistics certainly suggest he could be an ideal heir to Fernandes, especially considering his statistics while playing in the number ten role.

How many times has Shola Shoretire played for Manchester United?

The talented teenager has already made five appearances for the senior side and therefore knows what it's like to represent the club at the highest level.

He made his debut against Newcastle United in February 2021 and has played in the Premier League, Europa League, and the Champions League, as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer clearly rated him highly enough to present the youngster with these opportunities.

Shoretire has yet to feature under Ten Hag however, but his form for the U21 side this season may soon be enough to warrant another chance in the first-team squad before the season is over.

The Red Devils haven’t enjoyed the best of starts and the Dutchman is having to rely on a few members of his squad to bail him out at times. Fernandes is an integral part of the team, yet he won't be at the club forever and Shoretire must harbour ambitions that one day he could be an ideal heir to the former Sporting CP star.

Everton were handed a 2-0 defeat by Liverpool in the Merseyside derby on Saturday lunchtime as the Toffees were ultimately punished for Ashley Young's sending-off.

The 38-year-old defender was dismissed in the first half following two bookable offences, the second of which saw him receive a yellow card for clattering Luis Diaz, just minutes after making a goal-saving block.

Following his dismissal, the Reds struggled to break the visitors down, but ultimately broke the deadlock in the 75th minute as Mohamed Salah calmly converted his penalty before sealing the three points in the 97th minute.

Prior to Young's reckless sending-off, Sean Dyche's side did look dangerous on the counter-attack, however, his sending-off quickly changed the complexion of the contest, forcing Everton to sit back and soak up a lot of pressure.

A lot of that pressure, as expected, came down the Toffee's right side but Nathan Patterson, who came off the bench at half-time to deal with that, put in a strong audition to make that right back spot his own.

How did Nathan Patterson perform against Liverpool?

Patterson had the unenviable task of dealing with the lightning-quick Diaz and could have let the Anfield cauldron swallow him up, but the 22-year-old gem dealt with the threat of the Colombian admirably.

After watching the senior Young get beat for pace and dive into challenges recklessly, Patterson stood his ground and made himself difficult to beat, perhaps showcasing the reasons why Dyche was wrong to leave him out from the get-go.

While being down to ten-men limited the Scottish international from demonstrating his abundance of attacking attributes, he did put in an outstanding defensive display.

At times, Patterson had to deal with a two vs one situation with Kostas Tsimikas flying up the left flank and Diaz cutting inside, however, the youngster was like an immovable object, as the defensive demon made one tackle and won 100% of his aerial and ground duels, as per Sofascore.

By contrast, Young only won one of his four ground duels, lost possession a whopping nine times, and misplaced all of his five attempted long balls in his 37 minutes on the pitch, as per Sofascore.

The veteran endured a horror show at Anfield and his performances prior to this fixture are a telling sign that age is catching up to the former Manchester United player.

How has Ashley Young performed this season?

Although he made the goal-saving tackle that denied Diaz from breaking the deadlock, his all-round performance this term has flattered to deceive, struggling to compete against his positional peers in the Premier League.

Operating in a side that faces a constant wave of attacks from their opponents, an Everton full-back would be expected to make lots of challenges, last-ditch blocks and crucial interceptions.

Young, meanwhile, has fallen drastically short in that department, ranking in the bottom 28% for interceptions (0.73), bottom 35% for tackles (1.83), and bottom 38% for blocks (0.97) per 90, as per FBref.

On the other hand, the £28k-per-week Scotsman performed exceptionally in a defensive capacity prior to his lengthy spell on the sidelines last season, ranking in the top 14% for clearances, top 9% for interceptions, and top 4% for tackles against his positional peers in the Premier League.

While Dyche is forced into replacing Young from the starting XI, it could be a blessing in disguise as it provides Patterson with the opportunity to return to the form that saw his manager label him as "tremendous" last term.
