Journalists Nizaar Kinsella and Michael Bridge have heaped praise on Tottenham Hotspur after some transfer news out of north London.
Who have Tottenham signed?
Ange Postecoglou saw his ranks significantly reinforced over the summer window, as Spurs sealed deals for seven major signings.
Goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, young centre-back Ashley Phillips, defender Micky van de Ven, playmaker James Maddison, winger Manor Solomon, striker Alejo Veliz and forward Brennan Johnson all put pen to paper on moves to N17 before September 1; providing more strength in depth.
This comes as former superstar Harry Kane, Sergio Reguilon, Joe Rodon, Djed Spence, Harry Winks, Alfie Devine, Troy Parrott, Dane Scarlett, Davinson Sanchez and Tanguy Ndombele seal moves elswhere is a real overhaul of the squad.
Former Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou.
Postecoglou, chairman Daniel Levy and new Chief Football Officer Scott Munn are beginning to reshape the Spurs team in their new manager's image. It's been quite the start for him, too, as Tottenham begin the Premier League campaign with three wins from their opening four matches.
Impressively, they're currently matching last season's treble-winning Man City side for goals scored so far this season (11); highlighting the very promising early stages of Postecoglou're tenure in charge.
The Australian's appointment has also marked the return of open, attacking fooball at Tottenham with players like Dejan Kulusevski saying Postecoglou's ability has taken him by "surprise".
"I've been a little surprised but he’s really good," said Kulusevski on his new boss.
"We had a very tough time at the end of last season but he has come in with really positive energy and it has gone very quickly. We are a young team and everyone wants to play this way… It's clear that all of us players have done our best to listen as much as possible."
What's the latest Spurs transfer news?
Life under Postecoglou has been joyous for both members of the squad and players alike.
Tottenham have also been building an under-the-radar project for their new manager behind-the-scenes, as relayed by Alasdair Gold, who said this week that there is an "unseen" academy revolution happening right now.
The signing of Luka Vuskovic, who is joining Spurs' thriving youth set up when he turns 18 in 2025, is set to add further promise to their already-exciting crop of young talent at Hotspur Way.
Sky journalist Bridge, speaking to the Last Word on Spurs podcast this week (as transcribed by To The Lane and Back), says it's "very, very positive move".
“Now I don’t think Spurs will see him until 2025. But the fact that Spurs are actually thinking that far ahead is very, very positive," said Bridge.
"One person who knows the youth level has said to me that this kid could be ready at 18, which is quite unbelievable. But I suppose that’s backed up by the level he’s playing.”
Another member of the media to heap praise on Spurs after the signing of Vuskovic is The Evening Standard's Kinsella, who writes on X that the club have made a "really exciting signing" for Postecoglou.
Kinsella said: "Really exciting signing from Tottenham."
From 2020, Test cricket in England is back on the traditional six venues while the eight largest grounds will host the new T20 tournament. Has the last 20 years seen money well spent?
George Dobell16-Feb-2018
A view across the Ageas Bowl•Getty Images
Was all the effort worth it?Were the years of jostling, the vast debts incurred and the public money diverted worth the effort?Because, here we are, every bit of 20-years into an arms race that rendered almost half the competition (Hampshire, Durham, Yorkshire and Glamorgan) all but insolvent and we appear to be back where we started. With the six traditional venues hosting every Test in the most recent major match allocation. It wouldn’t be accurate to say all that money – and we are talking about hundreds of millions of pounds here – was wasted. If nothing else, the competition to host Test cricket forced clubs that had been complacent to improve their facilities and stop taking the spectator for granted. Remember the leaking roof at Edgbaston or the rotting seats at Old Trafford? Remember the days when a bit of rain in the North London morning would wash out play in the afternoon at Lord’s?They’re gone and they’re not missed. Improved facilities throughout England and Wales should provide a better experience for spectators and, in terms of the indoor schools and outdoor training areas, aid the development of future generations of players. It would be wrong to see such matters purely through the prism of Test cricket, too. The fact is several grounds – notably Cardiff – were more keen to host white-ball cricket in the belief that the new T20 competition, in particular, offers the best opportunity for growth and revenue. The fact that they have a vastly improved facility – as do Bristol and Taunton – can only be an asset. The competition remains, too. Hampshire haven’t given up the hope of hosting further Tests and, should one of the traditional six stumble or fall, they will be there to pick up the pieces. Durham, Glamorgan et al. aren’t saying ‘never’ either. But whether all that money has been put to the best possible use is another question entirely. Might those millions instead have helped develop a cricket stadium with a roof? Or might the game in England and Wales have been stronger had much of that money been forsaken to ensure the game retained the oxygen of publicity that could have been provided by free to air broadcast coverage? Even millionaires suffocate without oxygen.Remarkably, however, the latest allocation did something almost unprecedented: it left almost all the counties just about satisfied. Sure, one or two were more satisfied than others and the sense remains that Durham have been treated disproportionally harshly in recent times. But, by spreading the allocations and allowing the clubs to plan well in advance (they now have a fair degree of certainty which games they are hosting until the end of 2024), the ECB have handled a tricky situation adeptly. It was noticeable however, that, in the ECB’s press release announcing the allocations, it was mentioned that Colin Graves, the ECB chairman, “chose to be excused from the room” during the board meeting to verify the Host Venue panel’s recommendations in recognition of his on-going relationship with Yorkshire.Graves, it might be remembered, rescued Yorkshire from insolvency with loans in excess of £20m. And, bearing in mind the club’s outstanding record of providing players for the England teams, it is an intervention for which cricket-lovers far beyond Yorkshire’s boundaries should be grateful. But that intervention left the club with vast debts to service. And while Graves has jumped through every hoop to satisfy legal requirements as regards his independence – he no longer benefits from those Trusts which are, instead, in the names of family members – the fact is those debts cannot be serviced unless Yorkshire are guaranteed a significant income from a strong allocation of major matches. As a result, there might be a perception from some – a perception that Graves seems to understand in light of his decision to leave the room – that he remains somewhat partial regarding Yorkshire matters. It might be noted that the trustees of the Graves Family Trusts retain a veto over who can join, or be removed from, the Yorkshire board. So his decision to leave the room raises a few questions.Did Graves excuse himself from the room when the decision was made to take Test status from Durham? Because Yorkshire indirectly benefited from that decision as it effectively reduced the competition to host Test cricket in the north of England.Did Graves excuse himself from the room when the decision was made to reject the ECB’s own working party’s recommendation to reorganise domestic T20 cricket on the basis of promotion and relegation? Because Yorkshire, with a disproportionate reliance upon the value of their local derby match against Lancashire, had more at stake than most as a result of that discussion. And did he excuse himself from the room during all the meetings that decided the new T20 competition was to involve eight teams based at the largest eight venues? Because the decision to include Yorkshire – who have failed to exploit the growth of T20 as well as several domestic rivals – guarantees them an income and power that might, once again, reasonably be argued to help them meet their financial commitments.Because if he didn’t leave the rooms on those occasions, why did he this time? And if it was appropriate to leave this time, why wasn’t it before? Just a week ago, Lord Patel of Bradford – an independent board member – told ESPNcricinfo he didn’t know anything about such Trusts.Few seriously believe that Graves’ involvement in cricket is anything other than benevolent. He could have used his time and his money to far greater personal benefit elsewhere and it is telling that Rod Bransgrove, even in the midst of his personal disappointment at missing out on the right for his Hampshire ground to host an Ashes Test in 2023, remained steadfastly supportive of the integrity of Graves and the process by which the allocations were made. But strong governance doesn’t leave such matters to chance or to the conscience of individuals; it has systems in place to deal with such possibilities. And the uncomfortable suspicion could remain that, while so many decisions pertaining to the future of English cricket appear to benefit Yorkshire, the ECB has left themselves open to accusations of, if not conflicts of interest, at least the perception of possible conflicts of interest.

Former Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou left behind a strong legacy at Parkhead after enjoying a successful two years of work in the transfer market.
Who were Postecoglou's biggest signings at Celtic?
The ex-Hoops head coach, who departed Paradise to join Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur earlier this year, had a fantastic record with his signings as he brought in a host of superb talent.

Jota, Kyogo Furuhashi, Cameron Carter-Vickers, and Matt O'Riley are just a few of the many superb additions that were made during the Australian tactician's tenure with the Scottish giants.
One player, in particular, whom the club and Postecoglou struck gold on was right-back Josip Juranovic as they ended up making a significant profit on the talented defender.
How much did Celtic pay for Josip Juranovic?
The Hoops reportedly paid a fee of £2.5m to sign the full-back from Polish side Legia Warsaw in the summer of 2021, which was the manager's first window in charge of the side.
Postecoglou moved to sign the then-26-year-old ace after a move failed to materialise for Antwerp right-back Aurelio Buta, who was a target for the club at the time.
The Portuguese dynamo stayed with the Belgian side for another year and ended up joining Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt on a free transfer in 2022.
Buta had averaged a Sofascore rating of 6.74 across 25 Pro League matches and produced zero goals and four assists for Antwerp during the 2020/21 campaign, before a record of zero goals and three assists in 17 Belgian top-flight games the following season. A move, then, was well dodged.
Former Antwerp right-back Aurelio Buta.
Juranovic, on the other hand, came into the 2021 window off the back of one goal and eight assists in 26 league matches for Legia Warsaw, which came after he began his career with Hajduk Split and racked up 165 competitive first-team appearances in his home country.
His creative quality from right-back seemingly caught Postecoglou's eye and the Australian green-lit a £2.5m swoop for the defender to bolster his options at the back instead of a deal for Buta, who had not shown as much quality at the top end of the pitch.
How did Juranovic perform for Celtic?
It turned out to be an inspired piece of business by the former Bhoys boss as Juranovic went on to enjoy a phenomenal 18 months at Parkhead.
He delivered consistently brilliant performances week-in-week-out in the Scottish Premiership and proved himself to be an outstanding option for the head coach.
Former Celtic defender Josip Juranovic.
The Croatia international averaged a sublime Sofascore rating of 7.21 across 26 league outings during the 2021/22 campaign as he was deployed as a right-back and at left-back, which also highlighted his useful versatility to be able to play on either flank as a defender.
His attacking prowess was not on full display as he only chipped in with three goals and one assist. However, the talented full-back did create four 'big chances' and provided 1.3 key passes per game for his teammates – the joint-most of any full-back within the squad.
This shows that he was able to consistently split open the opposition's defence with his passing and crossing ability. However, they let him down with their finishing as he finished the season with just one assist.
Juranovic wasn't just a threat going forward, as he performed admirably at the back too, showcasing his defensive ability with 2.2 tackles and interceptions combined per match and a duel success rate of 56%, as per Sofascore.
The 28-year-old followed that up with a terrific start to the 2022/23 campaign as he averaged a Sofascore rating of 7.22 across ten Premiership outings, which was the fourth-best score within the team. This shows that he was one of the top performers at the club and vital to the team on the pitch.
He created 1.4 chances per match for his teammates – the fourth-highest within the squad – and made 2.5 tackles and interceptions per clash to go along with a duel success rate of 59%.
How much did Celtic sell Juranovic for?
His impressive displays for the Hoops eventually led to a transfer to Bundesliga side Union Berlin in January of this year for a reported fee of up to £10m.
This meant that Celtic made a £7.5m profit on the Croatia international as his market value rocketed up by 300% from the initial £2.5m they paid Legia Warsaw in 2021, just 18 months prior to his move to Germany.
Former Celtic star Josip Juranovic.
Juranovic's performances at the World Cup for his country at the end of 2022 may have also played a part in the move as he impressed in Qatar, with former France centre-back William Gallas hailing him as "unbelievable".
The 28-year-old full-back won an eye-catching 76% of his duels on the ground during the tournament, proving that he dominated the opposition on the deck when it came to his defensive work.
His displays indicated that he was able to produce on the biggest stage against the best teams in a high-pressure environment, something that likely persuaded Union Berlin to swoop for him.
Where is Buta now?
Buta, on the other hand, is still with Frankfurt after his debut season in Germany last term. He averaged a Sofascore rating of 6.92 across 18 outings as the Portuguese defender provided one key pass per game for his teammates and lost 55% of his duels.
These statistics suggest that Celtic dodged a bullet by missing out on the former Antwerp star as his performances were considerably worse than Juranovic's were for the Hoops.
This is also reflected in his market value as FootballTransfers currently rates Buta's Expected Transfer Value (xTV) at €5.9m (£5m), whereas they place the Union Berlin star's xTV at €10.1m (£9.5m).
Postecoglou clearly struck gold by securing a deal for Juranovic as the Scottish giants got 18 months of fantastic service out of the defender before they were able to cash in on him for a big profit.
Meanwhile, their other target has not developed as much as the Croatian talent and, based on the evidence of his form at Frankfurt, would not have been as much of a success at Parkhead.

Manchester United's summer transfer business was heavily focused on the present, with the likes of Andre Onana and Mason Mount arriving to bolster Erik ten Hag's options right in their primes.
Things haven't quite gone to plan for the Premier League giants so far this season, however, with three losses in their opening five games representing a disastrous start.
Those at Old Trafford could be set for a positive boost yet, though, with the Red Devils keeping a keen eye on future talent, perhaps in an attempt to avoid any significant collapses such as the one they are currently experiencing.
With that said, according to reports, Manchester United recently sent scouts to watch one particular star for the future, amid their interest in securing his signature.
What's the latest Manchester United transfer news?
Even when the transfer window is shut, a club of Manchester United's calibre does not stop seeking reinforcements, particularly when in poor form. During the summer, they spent a reported €207m (£178m) on welcoming a total of seven fresh faces, hoping to mount a potential title challenge.
Their 3-1 loss against Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford shows that they are anything but ready to join the title race, with injuries, off-field issues and poor form bundling the pressure on Ten Hag to turn things around.
The Red Devils could at least give their fans some good news in January, however, with reports suggesting that they're interested in Red Bull Salzburg youngster Oscar Gloukh.
According to The Sun, via Football365, United sent scouts to watch Gloukh's performance for Israel against Romania, in a game that saw the teenager score a crucial goal for his country aiming for Euro 2024 qualification.
Any deal for the Salzburg man may prove to be difficult, given that he only made the move from Maccabi Tel Aviv to the Austrian club in January. The Premier League giants are also not the only club interested in Goukh, with Liverpool and Arsenal also interested in the 19-year-old.
Who is Oscar Gloukh?
Oscar Gloukh in action for Israel.
A midfielder by trade, Gloukh has impressed for Red Bull Salzburg since making the January switch, with eight goal involvements in just 25 appearances. He'll only get better at the Austrian club, too, who have developed talents such as Erling Haaland and Dominik Szoboszlai in recent years. If Gloukh reaches anything near the level of those two, then United, should they pursue a move, could have themselves a game-changer.
Praising the youngster, Football Talent Scout wrote: "As for his role, Oscar is a pure playmaker that’s distinguished with qualities to operate either an “8”, a “10” or a winger.
"At 170cm tall, he has a low center of gravity, which contributes to his balance and changes of direction, is technically gifted, and is quite agile. In contrast to the rest of the Israeli talents, he has an extremely unique and complete profile, which seems to fit top-flight football."
With that said, whilst they'll face a fight for his signature, if United can secure the signature of Gloukh in January or next summer then it could go down as one of their best deals in recent years.
LEI DO EX!
