Tottenham fans reveal their love for Vertonghen

In terms of value for money, Tottenham Hotspur’s acquisition of Jan Vertonghen in the summer of 2012 has to go down as one of the best deals in recent memory.

Indeed, Spurs are believed to have paid around £10m to sign the centre-back from Ajax, and he has gone on to become one of the best defenders in the European game.

Now 30, Vertonghen is fast closing on 250 appearances for Tottenham, and he is already considered as a legend in the eyes of many of the club’s supporters.

Vertonghen was outstanding alongside Belgium teammate Toby Alderweireld last season, but has had a new centre-back partner for the majority of this term, with Davinson Sanchez coming into the fold.

Vertonghen, who is believed to collect £100,000 a week at Spurs, recently commented on the special relationship that he has with the Tottenham fans, and they were quick to respond to the defender’s words.

Leeds fans angered by Jansson rallying cry

Leeds fans are not happy with Pontus Jansson’s comments after the Reading match, as the centre back issued a rallying cry three months too late.

Leeds looked to have secured just their second win since Boxing Day on Saturday at the Madejski, but a Eunan O’Kane own goal meant the two struggling sides shared the points.

Jansson equalised for the Leeds on the brink of half time, after Jón Daði Böðvarsson had given the home side the lead. Pablo Hernandez thought he had stolen all three points for the visitors, only for O’Kane to put one in his own net just two minutes later.

It was an improved performance from Paul Heckingbottom’s side, with most fans at least somewhat happy that they finally showed a bit of fight. However, it wasn’t exactly a controlled performance, and Jansson’s post match comments have angered fans.

“At the moment I feel ashamed. In 2018 we have one win and I’m born to be a winner and win games. That’s what I live for, that’s why I play football – because I want to win games. We’ve got one win in 2018 so I feel bad,” said the 27 year-old defender.

“We had a good talk after the game against Wolves. We sat down for 30 minutes in the dressing room. Now it’s up to everyone to show balls and to prove if they want to stay in Leeds. They have to show it now on the pitch.”

Leeds fans will take at least some promise from the performance on Saturday, and the fact that the players are clearly frustrated with their recent form means at least they have something in common with the fans.

Still, fans are not impressed in the slightest by Jansson’s comments, questioning the point of even issuing a rallying cry now the side are out of the playoff picture.

Southampton fans react as club reveals ultimate XI as voted for by the supporters

Southampton Football Club revealed their ultimate XI as voted for by the supporters as part of a local exhibition at the SeaCity museum via their official website on Wednesday, and Saints fans were quick to react.

The St Mary’s faithful had been voting for their best team comprised of players that had made at least 150 appearances for the south coast outfit, with the results announced on Wednesday.

Peter Shilton, Jason Dodd, Claus Lundekvam, Jose Fonte, Wayne Bridge, Alan Ball, Matt Le Tissier, Adam Lallana, Rickie Lambert, Mick Channon and Alan Shearer made the cut, with Terry Paine and Kevin Keegan perhaps two of the biggest surprise absentees from the side as they only made the substitutes’ bench.

Southampton supporters, who have also had their say on the club’s reported interest in Huddersfield Town manager David Wagner, took to social media to give their thoughts on the ultimate XI, and while one described it as “outrageous”, another said “Wayne Bridge? Surely not?”

Doucoure would add real depth to Liverpool midfield next season

As reported by Talksport, Liverpool transfer target Abdoulaye Doucoure has made it clear he would love to one day play for the Reds.

What’s the story?

The Watford midfield has been heavily linked with a move to one of the big six in the English Premier League recently, including Liverpool, but a move failed to materialise in January.

With recent comments, the midfielder has made it pretty clear which club he’d prefer to play for and it’s the Anfield outfit who have emerged has possibly his preferred choice.

As quoted by Talksport, Doucoure said: “Liverpool is a club that need no introduction. I was impatient to play there, at Anfield. I wanted to feel the atmosphere. For me it would be a dream to play in a club like this.”

With Emre Can’s future at the Reds in doubt, would Doucoure be a good addition to add depth to Jurgen Klopp’s squad next season?

Good enough?

Doucoure is having a fantastic season at Watford, helping them to stay clear of relegation and proving to be one of the better central midfielders in the league outside of the top six clubs.

Primarily focused on the defensive side of the game, he’s shown enough attacking ambition that suggests he could fit into Liverpool’s forward-thinking outfit, scoring seven goals and providing three assists across the season.

Rated at £10.8m by Transfermarkt, he is well within reach of the Anfield side and with Can potentially on his way out of the club, Klopp could do a lot worse than making a move for the Frenchman.

Manchester United fans were impressed with Smalling turnaround vs City

Manchester United ensured rivals Manchester City would not be celebrating a title win at their expense on Saturday, producing a huge derby comeback to win 3-2 at the Etihad Stadium.

Finding themselves two goals down at the interval after goals from Vincent Kompany and Ilkay Gundogan, Jose Mourinho’s side rallied after the break to score through Paul Pogba twice, eventually securing the winner thanks to defender Chris Smalling.

No-one typified United’s comeback more than Smalling who had a particularly poor first half before finding the winning mentality to inspire the derby victory.

Fans were impressed with that turnaround, respecting the way he managed to put initial mistakes behind him to play such a pivotal role in such an important match.

The title may be beyond them this season but supporters will be hoping they can keep winning in the tail-end of the season to secure second place and head into the summer with as much positivity as possible.

They took to Twitter to share their thoughts on Smalling’s Saturday display…

Aurier struggling to change negative reputation at Tottenham Hotspur

Serge Aurier has come under fire from Tottenham Hotspur fans numerous times this season.

The 25-year-old was brought in by manager Mauricio Pochettino from Paris Saint-Germain last year as a replacement for Kyle Walker.

Initially, the Ivory Coast international impressed, but in recent matches, he has become quite the liability.

Against Manchester City in Spurs’ humbling 3-1 defeat at Wembley, Aurier played a part in the defensive frailties that led to Pep Guardiola’s side nabbing a penalty.

On Wednesday night, the right-back committed another crime on the pitch as he gave away a penalty to Brighton at the Amex Stadium.

Just a matter of moments after Harry Kane put the visitors ahead, Aurier clipped the heels of Jose Izquierdo in the box.

Pascal Gross netted from the spot to restrict Tottenham to just a point, which keeps them fourth in the Premier League table, eight points above Chelsea.

As well as giving away a penalty, Aurier made just one clearance and committed one tackle throughout the entire 90 minutes.

In fact, Lucas Moura made more tackles than the Ivorian, who needs to sharpen up his game in order to eradicate the regular clumsiness being shown on the field.

So far this season, Aurier has started 23 games in all competitions, including 16 in the Premier League.

Manchester City shock favourites to clinch Rashford deal

Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has regularly been praised by the fans due to his threat at the top of the field.

At the age of just 20, the attacker has established himself as a regular member of the first-team squad, but has been unable to hold down a starting spot.

Manager Jose Mourinho has included Rashford in just 15 of the club’s 33 Premier League matches this season.

In total, the young player has featured in 44 games in all competitions, and in that spell has scored 12 goals and created six assists.

Due to the fact that he is lower down the pecking order at Old Trafford, rumours are rumbling about  Rashford’s long-term future at the club.

According to the Daily Star, bookmaker Betfair has placed Chelsea and – more surprisingly – Manchester City as joint-favourites at 10/1 to sign the forward at the end of the season.

Given that Rashford has come through the academy at United, it would be a huge shock if the England international made the move to the blue half of Manchester.

Foderingham is a viable choice for the number one position at Forest

As reported by The Scottish Sun, Nottingham Forest are one of the sides showing interest in Rangers goalkeeper Wes Foderingham ahead of the summer transfer window.

What’s the story?

With the reported imminent arrival of Hull City shot-stopper Allan McGregor at Ibrox, the long-term future of current Gers number one Foderingham is in doubt.

That’s alerted Nottingham Forest to his situation according to The Scottish Sun, who say the Championship side are monitoring his situation alongside division rivals Sheffield Wednesday.

Rated at £630,000 by Transfermarkt, is he the kind of player that the Reds should be looking at this summer?

Would he be a good signing?

Cycling between Jordan Smith, Costal Pantilimon and Stefanos Kapino this season, the goalkeeping position has been one of the less assured areas of the Nottingham Forest team of late.

There are certainly question marks ahead of the upcoming transfer window and if the right goalkeeper comes along then they’d be foolish not to consider adding another.

Wes Foderingham could fit the bill. After four seasons in League Two and League One with Swindon Town, Foderingham has earned a reputation as being an excellent pure shot-stopper in Scotland with Rangers.

Although he still has improvements to be make in his all-round game, he’s proven he can cope with the pressures of performing consistently for a big club and could boost Forest’s hopes of reaching the play-offs next season.

There are certainly worse options and if Forest find themselves in the market for a ‘keeper, the 27-year-old is someone they should consider.

Leeds fans adore Peacock-Farrell after first clean sheet

Leeds fans have been heaping praise on Bailey Peacock-Farrell, after their young goalkeeper got his first clean sheet in the final match of the season.

It’s been a long and painful season for Leeds fans, but if there’s one thing they can compliment Paul Heckingbottom for it’s his trust in youth.

The ex-Barnsley man has won just four games since taking over from Thomas Christiansen in February, but that hasn’t stopped in from handing debuts to some extremely impressive youngsters.

Tom Pearce, Paudie O’Connor and Ryan Edmondson are the latest additions to the long list of academy graduates to play for the Leeds first team, but by far and away the most impressive has been Peacock-Farrell.

The 21 year-old keeper was thrown into the action against champions Wolves earlier this year, thanks to the shocking form of Felix Wiedwald.

Despite some growing pains, the Northern Irishman has gone from strength to strength, and finally got the clean sheet he deserves in Sunday’s 2-0 win over QPR.

Fans aren’t exactly optimistic about the future at the moment, but Peacock-Farrell has shown he could be the next Leeds great, and fans are showing the love for the young stopper.

‘You guys have failed us all’ – Chelsea fans on Twitter fume after club’s post

The Chelsea fans in the Transfer Tavern have been reacting to comments from their explosive left-back, Marcos Alonso. The Spaniard claimed via the Chelsea website that the club was”so unlucky” after failing to impress as they fell to a 0-0 draw with The Terriers to secure Huddersfield’s Premier League status for next season and leave Chelsea’ Champions League hopes hanging by a thread.

Chelsea missed a huge chance to take the lead against David Wagner’s side in the first-half when Antonio Rudiger couldn’t convert an open goal chance from less than five-yeards out, setting the tone for Chelsea’s form in front of goal for the rest of the match. In the second-half, Laurent Depoitre latched onto Aaron Mooy’s long ball and capitalised on a mistake from Willy Caballero’s mistake to open the scoring.

Chelsea came back firing but could only find the net with a freak goal. When Huddersfield thought they’d dealt with a tame cross into the box, the ball was fired straight into the face of Marcos Alonso and rebounded into the corner of the net. It was Alonso’s 7th Premier League goal of the season and whilst he knew nothing about it, he’s still not happy seeing as it couldn’t be used as a platform to overcome The Terriers and continue the fight for Champions League.
