Romano Reveals Candidate For Major Spurs Role Ahead Of Transfer Window

Tim Steidten is one of the candidates Tottenham Hotspur are looking at to take up their vacant director of football role, Fabrizio Romano has revealed.

What's the latest on Spurs' director of football search?

The club found themselves in a far from ideal-situation as director Fabio Paratici was handed a global ban from footballing activities following his involvement in a scandal at Juventus, and with the club also searching for a new manager, they need to make an appointment as soon as possible.

It is currently unclear who will take the job as Spurs' director of football, but whoever is appointed will likely play a large part in choosing the club's next manager.

Speaking on the Here We Go Podcast, Romano revealed that Steitden is one of three names being considered.

"The first step has to be to pick the new director. So Daniel Levy, the chairman, is working to have a new director of football at the club and then the situation will be clarified for the new manager," he stated.

"So from what I understand, Tim Steidten, who was director at Bayer Leverkusen, is in the three-man candidate list to become the new Tottenham director."

What could Steidten bring to Spurs?

The German departed Bayer Leverkusen in March, and is available to start immediately should Spurs choose him as Paratici's replacement.

His experience at Leverkusen comes following the links between Spurs and Xabi Alonso. Steidten was present when Alonso was handed his managerial role at the club, but it seems as if the Spaniard has ruled himself out of the running.

Steidten was instrumental in bringing talented young players to Leverkusen, with the likes of Jeremie Frimpong, Moussa Diaby and Edmund Tapsoba flourishing since their arrivals at the club.

He was the head of scouting at Leverkusen until his promotion to a sporting director role last summer, and his track record in player identification could be appealing to Spurs.

With Harry Kane's future uncertain, Spurs face a big summer ahead as they attempt to rebuild their squad, and targeting young talents may be the best route for the Lilywhites.

If he does join Spurs, then he could raid his former club for some of their stars, and Piero Hincapie is a player who had previously been linked with a move to North London.

It is unclear if the German is keen on the job, or who he will look at in terms of a managerial appointment if he is chosen by Daniel Levy as the director to help fix the current mess Spurs are in.

Wolves: ‘Dazzling’ £20m Titan Could Be Neves Heir At Molineux

Wolverhampton Wanderers will be looking to recruit this summer, after a challenging Premier League campaign.

The Midlands club saw a drastic change of fortunes when Julen Lopetegui took charge from Bruno Lage, who recorded just one win in his final 15 games at the helm.

The Spaniard has got Wolves back to playing attractive football and securing results to keep them firmly in the top division, however, it is expected to be a busy summer for the former Real Madrid boss.

With forwards such as Ansu Fati and Viktor Gyokeres already linked to a potential move to Molineux, the club are reportedly eyeing a midfield starlet from Ligue 1, who has impressed this season in France.

What’s the latest on Habib Diarra to Wolves?

The Sun reported earlier this week Wolves are one of the clubs monitoring the movements of Strasbourg midfielder Habib Diarra.

The 19-year-old is a hot topic in the Midlands, with rivals Aston Villa also a club eyeing the youngster.

It’s suggested by the report that the asking price will be £20m this summer, with nine clubs flagged as having an interest in the prodigy who is contracted until 2027.

How could Habib Diarra improve Wolves?

Transfer speculation surrounding Molineux has been dominated by the narrative of Ruben Neves’ future, however, Lopetegui may not need to look further than the Strasbourg star this summer.

While the Portuguese ace plays a deeper role in midfield in Wolves’ system, Diarra could become his natural heir in a more advanced area, showcasing strengths that surpass those of the Wolves captain.

Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves.

The 26-year-old has played a pivotal role in Lopetegui’s attack and despite playing as a number eight, is the club’s joint-highest goalscorer this season with six goals in the league.

With the introduction of Mario Lemina, the Spaniard has added strength in midfield, allowing the potentially departing star to be more progressive, which could open the door for Diarra to fill his vacant position.

As per FBref, the 19-year-old excels in comparison to Neves in a range of valued attributes in midfield, averaging 3.92 progressive carries to the Portugal international’s 0.85 per 90.

Lining up as a defensive midfielder for Strasbourg hasn’t limited the youngsters' threat going forward, with him averaging 2.30 touches in the attacking penalty area per 90, with the Wolves skipper scoring just 0.76 per 90 in that area.

Hailed as “dazzling” by Foot Mercato’s Sebastian Denis, the rising star could be a revelation signing in the pursuit to fill the boots of Neves who is likely to depart this summer.

With increased interest throughout Europe speculated, the Spaniard must act fast to secure the prodigy’s signature.

Pujara 256* flattens India Red

Having passed 700 in their last match, India Blue declared seven runs short of that mark in the Duleep Trophy final, with Cheteshwar Pujara scoring his tenth first-class double-hundred, before Pankaj Singh ripped into India Red’s top order

Having passed 700 in their last match, India Blue declared seven runs short of that mark in the Duleep Trophy final, with Cheteshwar Pujara scoring his tenth first-class double-hundred, before Pankaj Singh ripped into India Red’s top order with wickets off successive balls in his first over. With just over ten days to go for India’s first Test against New Zealand, Pujara has made 166 and 256* in back-to-back first-class matches, suggesting a return to the insatiable ways of his best years. Pujara now has as many first-class double-hundreds as Vijay Hazare, Sunil Gavaskar and Rahul Dravid; Vijay Merchant, with 11, is the only Indian batsman above him.For the majority of the day, Pujara was kept company by his Saurashtra team-mates Sheldon Jackson and Ravindra Jadeja. After a shaky start, and with the benefit of three lives along the way, Jackson settled into some fine strokeplay to bring up his 11th first-class ton. His 134 featured 15 fours and two sixes as he shared a 243-run fifth-wicket stand with Pujara. Jackson’s dismissal brought Jadeja to the crease with the team’s total at 605. Jadeja scored a free-spirited 48 off 66, hitting three fours and two sixes to put the finishing touches on India Blue’s marathon innings. But India Red’s misery did not end there. Bowling over the wicket to the left-handed batsmen, Pankaj got the ball to cut back in sharply, trapping Abhinav Mukund plumb in front and sneaking one between Sudip Chatterjee’s bat and pad to clip the top of middle. His hat-trick ball to Yuvraj Singh did a tad too much and Yuvraj survived through to stumps for an unconvincing 0* off 26, his side tottering at 16 for 2.Though Pujara had begun the day on 111 with a well-set Dinesh Karthik for company, the first session was more testing than the batsmen might have anticipated. It opened with a wicket off the first ball, when Karthik, playing a loose drive away from his body, edged an innocuous delivery from Pradeep Sangwan onto his stumps.Throughout the first session, the India Red quicks showed substantial improvement from their day-one display, with Sangwan and Nathu Singh forcing the batsmen to play far more often and benefiting from occasional lateral movement when the ball pitched on one of the ever-widening cracks. Jackson, in particular, looked uncomfortable early on. His first 17 balls featured a number of plays and misses but not a single run. When he eventually got off the mark, it was courtesy an edge off Nathu that just evaded Yuvraj Singh at first slip. The fast bowlers’ improved showing seemed to rub off on the rest of the attack. Stuart Binny created the first genuine chance of the day when a length ball stopped on Jackson, who drove it in the air to the bowler’s left. Though Binny got a hand to it, he was unable to hold on. Then Jackson, batting on 29, top-edged an attempted late cut off Amit Mishra and Yuvraj shelled a slip catch that ought to have been taken.Having got through the tough initial period, Pujara and Jackson began to impose themselves. In addition to his usual repertoire of strokes, Pujara unfurled a couple of neat reverse-sweeps against Mishra. After his two reprieves, Jackson gradually became more assured. Pujara brought up his double ton and Jackson his ton and, though the latter was reprieved once again when Dhawan dropped him on 108 off Kuldeep Yadav, the batsmen were now firmly in control. As the day wore on, India Red’s intensity dropped sharply. After the tea interval, Gurkeerat Singh and Kuldeep dished out a number of unthreatening overs that enabled the batsmen to milk their way to a double-century stand. Both tended to drop short, allowing the batsmen to rock back to cut or pull or clip the ball through midwicket. Their slowness in the air also offered opportunities for Pujara and Jackson to skip to the pitch and smother the spin.It all seemed a bit too easy. The introduction of Yuvraj did little to change that. Nor did Mishra’s switch to bowling around the wicket. As the total ticked past 500 and then past 600, India Red spread the field and seemed content to let the game drift.Mishra had a better day overall, having cut out the rank half-trackers that were a persistent feature of his first-day effort. However, he only really settled into a decent rhythm after dinner, under lights, and was rewarded with the wicket of Jackson, who offered a return catch driving a ball that had stopped on him. The other spinners, though, remained too short, giving the batsmen time to adjust to the turn on offer. When Mukund was brought on in the 167th over to bowl his very occasional legspin, Pujara duly pulled a long-hop for four to bring up yet another milestone, his 250, with a boundary. Mukund, though, had Jadeja chopping on in his next over at which point India Blue declared.

Chelsea "Considering" Move For "Exceptional" £40m Goalkeeper

Chelsea are “considering” a move to sign Brentford goalkeeper David Raya this summer, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

Is David Raya leaving Brentford?

The Spaniard will be out of contract at the end of next season meaning that the upcoming window will be Thomas Frank’s final big opportunity to cash in should he not want to risk losing him for free in 12 months time, and an exit is likely after his boss admitted that he’s worried he’ll lose his number one, not to mention they have just signed his possible replacement in the form of Mark Flekken.

The Bees shot-stopper has been attracting interest from the Blues and Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur and it sounds like he’s keen to secure a big-money move elsewhere with his agent, Futbol21Pro’s Jaume Munell, having warned that should their client’s £40m price tag not be lowered, then he will see out his deal and leave for nothing in 2024.

Are Chelsea signing Raya?

Taking to Twitter, Jacobs revealed that Chelsea are weighing up an official approach for Raya, with Todd Boehly and Mauricio Pochettino both on the hunt for a new first-choice goalkeeper. He wrote:

“Thomas Frank has again reiterated that David Raya can leave for £40m. Chelsea and Spurs both considering him. Villa could also look if they lose Emi Martinez. Whether or not Brentford get such a large fee remains to be seen. Suitors feel the price is too high.”

Brentford goalkeeper David Raya.

Should Chelsea cash out on Raya?

Chelsea are reportedly open to offers for Edouard Mendy this summer after falling below Kepa Arrizabalaga in the pecking order, and with the owner searching for a fresh long-term first-choice between the sticks, Raya could be the perfect successor having been hailed “exceptional” by journalist Sam Dean.

The World Cup participant kept 12 clean sheets in the top-flight last season which saw him receive three man-of-the-match awards, not to mention that he ranks in the 94th percentile for crosses stopped so isn’t afraid to come out and claim the ball to clear the danger.

The 6 foot 1 colossus, who appears to be at the top of his game with a career-high Transfermarkt valuation, also recorded a total of 154 saves over the course of the campaign which was higher than any other goalkeeper in the division, giving him a success percentage of 77.7%.

Finally, Raya has a strong range of passing having completed 131 of 135 short range passes and 463 of 473 medium range passes, as per FBRef, so he's a very well-rounded shot-stopper and one that could fit perfectly into Pochettino's squad.

Arsenal Could Sign ‘Outstanding’ £35m Saka Clone

Arsenal's fine season came to a triumphant end on Sunday, as they blew away Wolverhampton Wanderers 5-0 in front of a gracious Emirates crowd. Many had turned out to deliver their thanks to Mikel Arteta and his playing staff, for staging the most unlikely title charge that fell just short.

Regardless of how it ended, it makes for a bright future in north London, where a few key additions could help them take that final step in the battle with Manchester City. Not only that, but they also now have Champions League football to look forward to once again.

This was particularly important given the pulling power such an attraction draws in the transfer market, affording them a head start over any club without European football, or in a lesser version of their competition.

It could also prove decisive in luring other talent from lower down the Premier League, with the promise of minutes in that elite competition sure to tempt many.

One such name that could be intrigued by such a prospect is Michael Olise, who reports are now linking with a €40m (£35m) Emirates switch.

How good is Michael Olise?

Although it might seem questionable to sign someone with such a similar profile to Bukayo Saka, as a tricky, dazzling and elegant right winger with a wicked left foot, the extent to which their England international has been worked is ludicrous.

Featuring in all 38 of their league games this season for the second term running, Arteta must be worrying about when his young superstar will burn out.

In an attempt to avoid such an occurrence, the acquisition of Olise could provide suitable competition without altering the makeup of the team much.

After all, Crystal Palace's mesmeric maestro has too enjoyed a fine campaign, scoring two goals and assisting a further 11 in the league.

bukayo-saka-arsenal-olise

Although a far cry from Saka's levels, who recorded 25 goal contributions this season, the gulf is not so big as to suggest that they could not battle for the spot. Additionally, a move up the table would surely see Olise's numbers improve too whilst supplying the likes of Martin Odegaard, Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli.

During that run of form in 2023 which rocketed the Eagles to comfortable safety, the 21-year-old was instrumental in such a turnaround. Statman Dave first branded the winger a "stunner" in January before pundit Clinton Morrison suggested he had been "outstanding" and a "joy to watch" in April.

Ironically enough, the two would come up against one another often at youth level, with Michael Richards, Olise's youth coach, emphasising their similarities and ability above everyone else: "It was basically the Michael and Bukayo show. You could see that both of them were exceptional, far above everyone else."

OneVersusOne serve to compliment this notion further, as the two are also similar in their crosses made per 90 (3.18 v 3.29), dribble success percentage (78.66% v 73.39%) and assists (0.24 v 0.31). Their shared creativity is arguably unparalleled.

If Edu is serious about affording Saka some much-needed rest midway through the season, there are arguably few better value-for-money signings on the market than Olise, who would allow the switch to be made with minimal fuss and maximum quality in the starter and the substitute.
