Romano drops Spurs transfer update

Fabrizio Romano has dropped an update on the remaining transfer business of Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

What’s the latest?

In a recent interview with GIVEMESPORT, the Italian journalist revealed that, following the confirmed arrivals of Richarlison, Yves Bissouma, Djed Spence, Ivan Perisic, Fraser Forster and Clement Lenglet in the current window, Fabio Paratici and Antonio Conte will now turn their focus in the market to offloading unwanted first team squad members.

The transfer insider went on to name Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso, Sergio Reguilon and Harry Winks as four of the most likely candidates to depart north London prior to September’s transfer deadline, while the Evening Standard also report that Japhet Tanganga, Bryan Gil and one of Matt Doherty or Emerson Royal could also leave the club this summer.

Regarding Spurs’ remaining summer business, Romano said: “For the other opportunities, we will have to wait until August because now the priority is for Tottenham to sell players.

“Ndombele is one of them, Lo Celso is another. Reguilon is in a situation which needs to be clarified and Harry Winks could leave as well. They will try to sell as many players as possible – of course, only players that are not in the project of Antonio Conte – and then decide on potential additions.”

Supporters will be buzzing

Considering just how much – expensive – deadwood there appears to be in Conte’s first-team squad at present, Romano’s update that Paratici is looking to offload a number of Spurs’ unwanted first-teamers this summer is sure to have left the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium faithful buzzing.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-spurs-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-much-more” title= “Read the latest Spurs news, transfer rumours and more!”]

Indeed, all of the £200k-per-week Ndombele – who was sent on loan to Olympique Lyon in the second half of last season – the £70k-per-week Lo Celso – who was also shipped out to Villarreal CF back in January – the £53k-per-week Reguilon and the £50k-per-week Winks – both of whom were left out of Conte’s squad for the pre-season tour of South Korea – do not appear to a future under the 52-year-old in north London.

And, when taking into account the fact that this quartet are currently earning a combined £373k-per-week at Tottenham, it is clear to see why Romano suggests that further incomings this summer are dependent on Paratici managing to offload as many of the aforementioned players as possible in the coming weeks.

However, with the transfer insider also revealing that outgoings have now become Paratici’s priority in the current window – and with the sporting director quite clearly being an extremely savvy negotiator in the transfer window – it would appear more than likely that the Italian will be successful in shipping out Spurs’ unwanted stars – something that could subsequently see Tottenham making more exciting additions further down the line this summer.

Crystal Palace eyeing Ludovic Ajorque

Crystal Palace are considering an approach to sign Strasbourg striker Ludovic Ajorque this summer, according to Football Insider.

The lowdown: Career so far

Signed from Clermont Foot in 2018 for £1.8million (Transfermarkt), Ajorque has spent his entire career in France having come through the ranks at Angers as a youngster.

The 28-year-old frontman has amassed 257 career outings altogether, directly contributing to 108 goals in that time, and was part of the Strasbourg side that lifted the French League Cup in 2018/19, his only team accolade to date.

Now, having previously been a target for West Ham, Ajorque is seemingly back on the agenda in the Premier League and the Eagles are among the suitors…

The latest: ‘Plotting moves’

As per Football Insider, Crystal Palace, Leicester City and Newcastle United are all believed to be ‘plotting moves’ to sign the uncapped Frenchman.

It’s claimed that the towering centre-forward is a ‘target for a number of clubs across Europe’ this summer following an impressive Ligue 1 campaign.

The report also states that Strasbourg president Marc Keller would sanction a sale during the ongoing window and Palace officials are preparing to watch the defender – who was described as a ‘beast physically’ by journalist Alessandro Schiavone – in action against Liverpool next weekend.

The verdict: Make it happen

Despite the capture and subsequent instant impact of Odsonne Edouard last season, ultimately the strike-force in situ at Selhurst Park flattered to deceive once again in 2021/22 as Wilfried Zaha topped the scoring charts with 15 goals, finishing ahead of the eight strikes managed by midfield loanee Conor Gallagher.

Edouard himself, Jean-Philippe Mateta, Jordan Ayew and Christian Benteke were all given ample opportunities to make centre-forward position their own in Vieira’s plans, without ever truly doing enough to warrant a lengthy run in the side, leading to question marks as to whether Steve Parish and Dougie Freedman may delve into the market.

With speculation linking Benteke with a move away from southeast London, suddenly the need for reinforcements becomes all the more apparent and Ajorque represents a wholly viable candidate.

Standing at a monstrous 6 foot 4, the £14.4million valued hitman can emulate much of the 6 foot 3 Benteke’s physicality whilst also coming off the back of an outstanding 12 goal and eight assist campaign in Ligue 1.

In fact, Ajorque has been showcasing his prowess in front of goal for some time now, comfortably outperforming his xG data in 2020/21, 2019/20 and 2018/19, proof of an adept finisher who appears to be ready to take the next step in his career.

Fulham make approach to sign Luizao

Fulham have made official contact to sign Sao Paulo defender Luizao, according to a Brazilian outlet.

The Lowdown: Luizao contract running out

The 20-year-old has now entered the final six months of his contract with the Serie A outfit, and as a result of his deal expiring on January 31, is free to sign a pre-contract agreement with any potential suitors.

The centre-back has been a bit-part player for Sao Paulo in recent times, only making five league appearances last season, and therefore has been linked with a summer move away from Rogerio Ceni’s side, with one Premier League name in particular cropping up.

The Latest: Fulham make contact

Brazilian website Globo Esporte (via Sport Witness) report that three European clubs have ‘made approaches’ for Luizao to discover more information on his transfer situation, with Fulham, alongside Benfica and Porto, among those name-checked.

It’s stated that the Cottagers ‘aren’t only interested in signing him as a free agent next year’, but have ‘checked the possibility of a negotiation’ during the current window.

The Verdict: One for the future

Marco Silva has already made six summer signings, with Shane Duffy the latest new arrival to walk through the doors, and Luizao would be a bargain to follow in his footsteps and secure on a cut-price deal.

The 6 foot 1 colossus is still at such a young age and the boss has always been one to throw up and coming talents into his squad – there’s no reason as to why he couldn’t do the same with this exciting prospect.

Luizao could bring his height and athleticism to the heart of Silva’s backline, attributes that suit the style of play in the Premier League, and could prove to be a clever signing for the club in the long-term.

Rangers urged to find Morelos successor

Former Premier League striker Noel Whelan has urged Glasgow Rangers to find a replacement for Alfredo Morelos at Ibrox.

The lowdown: Uncertain future

Seemingly perennially linked with a move away during his five years with the club, the 26-year-old Colombia international has avoided all speculation thus far and amassed a staggering 164 direct goal contributions in 224 outings for the Light Blues.

Having entered the final 12 months of a deal in Glasgow though, Morelos, along with Ryan Kent, has reportedly opened discussions with the Gers’ hierarchy regarding a new deal.

Reacting to the discussions, one pundit has urged Rangers to seek a long-term replacement in the ongoing window regardless of whether Morelos commits his future…

The latest: ‘Got to be looking’

Speaking to Football Insider, ex-Leeds United frontman and former BBC Radio show host Whelan suggested that Giovanni van Bronckhorst should take a leaf out of Celtic’s book and sign competition for the 11-cap ace.

He said: “I think with a year left, Morelos is in control of the situation – Rangers aren’t. So they’ve got to be looking now for a striker who can have longevity at the club.

“Morelos has been around a long time. He’s been fantastic, but he’s always talked about leaving – the speculation has been constant. The time has probably come for him to have a change, and Rangers need the security of having a top striker at the club if that does happen. They need to look for the new Morelos.

“January might be a sign of what is to come, but they need to cover their backs this summer. You can never have too many options in these attacking areas, just look at Celtic.”

The verdict: Options required…

As things stand, Van Bronckhorst has Fashion Sakala, Kemar Roofe and summer signing Antonio Colak at his disposal as alternative centre-forward options to Morelos, albeit Roofe is currently sidelined due to an injury setback.

Ultimately, it’s been injuries to Roofe that have shone a light on the lack of depth in the attacking department previously, a problem Rangers will hope the signing of 28-year-old Croatia international Colak will address.

Long term, signing a successor to the £11.7million valued Morelos and indeed an injury-prone Roofe would be a shrewd move from the Light Blues, particularly given that the Colombian missed 15 games through a thigh problem last season.

Linked with the likes of Ellis Simms and Patrick Cutrone this summer, there is clearly a desire to add more firepower to the armoury at Ibrox and during the remaining time in the window, another signing could well be forthcoming regardless of the potentially imminent new in-house deals.

Moyes wants GSB to act after City defeat

Ex-BBC pundit Noel Whelan has urged West Ham United to sanction big money spending after hearing David Moyes’ latest transfer comments.

The Lowdown: Moyes’ comments

On the opening weekend of the new Premier League season, the Hammers lined up against last year’s champions Manchester City at the London Stadium.

Proving too much for the Irons’ defence, new Citizens arrival Erling Haaland scored twice as City somewhat coasted to a 2-0 victory.

After a poor all-round performance, for which the West Ham XI averaged a meagre 6.49 SofaScore rating, manager Moyes took to his post-match interview, where he claimed: “We need to freshen up a little bit, we’re a bit stale.”

The Latest: Whelan’s claim

Despite having made five signings this summer, Whelan, who worked for BBC Radio Leeds before taking on a role at Elland Road, reacted after hearing the comments from Moyes.

Speaking with Football Insider, he said:

“They’re looking for the next progression.

“To achieve that, they will have to spend money, unfortunately. The board have got to allow that to happen.

“If they want to close the gap to those Champions League spots, which they’ve come so close to doing – they need to keep adding to the squad and spending money.

“That’s what David Moyes wants, and that’s what will take them to the next level. It may also be the thing that keeps big players at the club.

“They want to see that progression and know that they will be challenging at the right end of the table.

“They’ve got to be ambitious and challenge Man United, Arsenal, and Spurs – but to do that, you’ve got to spend that extra money.”

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/west-ham-latest-updates-2/” title=”West Ham latest updates!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: More outgoings than incomings

In spite of the new arrivals at Rush Green, the east London club have also seen the same number of players leave the club this summer.

Whilst the quality of their replacements may have improved, this still means West Ham are short of depth in the squad.

According to Hammers news page West Ham Social, the Irons are now down to just 17 fit first-team players.

As demonstrated last season, Moyes’ squad seriously suffered with fatigue, with the side faltering towards the end of the Premier League season.

Therefore, if GSB do not put their hand in their pocket and bring in multiple new additions before September’s deadline, this could be a missed opportunity for the club to progress.

Man Utd ‘want to push’ for ‘incredible’ ace

Fabrizio Romano has provided a fresh update on Manchester United’s pursuit of Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

The Lowdown: Rabiot links

Rabiot was linked with a move to Old Trafford following United’s opening weekend defeat against Brighton. A deal worth an initial £15m plus add-ons was thought to have been agreed between the two clubs during the week, with personal terms needing to be finalised.

Erik ten Hag is ‘very keen’ on the midfielder, labelled as ‘incredible’ by Gianluigi Buffon, but a transfer is still yet to be completed.

The Latest: Romano’s update

Romano took to Twitter on Sunday morning to provide an update on United and Rabiot, less than 24 hours on from the club’s 4-0 defeat against Brentford.

The transfer expert stated that United ‘want to push’ for Rabiot, with a ‘new round of talks’ with his mother and agent Veronique set to take place soon.

Romano added that ‘all parties involved are now really confident to get the deal done’, with Juventus waiting to receive an initial fee, should a transfer go through.

[web_stories_embed url=”https://www.footballtransfertavern.com/web-stories/latest-man-utd-news-5/” title=”Latest Man Utd news!” poster=”” width=”360″ height=”600″ align=”none”]

The Verdict: More needed

Saturday evening’s embarrassing defeat to Brentford just emphasised the need for new signings, so hopefully, Rabiot will be the first of many through the door over the coming weeks.

He’ll provide Ten Hag with a much-needed new midfield option, with the Frenchman capable of playing as a holding or central midfielder, so should provide competition to Fred and Scott McTominay.

Rabiot also has an eye for goal with 33 strikes for club and country, more than his tally for assists, and with Ten Hag a fan, you’d expect he could go straight into the starting XI.

Everton learn Che Adams asking price

Everton have learned the price tag for one of their reported transfer targets…

What’s the word?

According to talkSPORT reporter Alex Crook, a move for Southampton’s Che Adams will set the Toffees back roughly £20m.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, he said: “I think it would take a bid of £18-20m for Southampton to sell Che Adams, and I just don’t see where Everton are going to get that kind of financial power from so late in a window that’s already been difficult for them.”

Earlier this week, Fabrizio Romano had reported that Frank Lampard’s side were the most likely to sign Adams; and now that the price tag has been revealed, it is up to the Everton boss whether he deems this a viable deal for the club to make.

Lampard needs him

In the absence of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, who remains out injured, Lampard has been left incredibly light up front.

Salomon Rondon has played just 83 minutes so far this term despite being Everton’s only other senior striker, with Anthony Gordon deputising in a position previously unfamiliar to him. This has unsurprisingly led to a toothless start to the season for the Toffees, who have netted just once for themselves in their opening three league games.

Adams would come in and be able to do a job for Lampard’s side, leading from the front with his pressing and linking up with the abundance of tricky wingers at Goodison Park.

The Scotland international was labelled “relentless” by Tariq Panta, who claimed that the 26-year-old must be a huge annoyance for defenders who face him.

Adams managed seven goals and a further three assists for Southampton last term, but it is his tally of 30 league appearances which may please Everton fans the most. This regular availability marks him out as a dependable presence up front, something which will be paramount for steering Everton away from another relegation battle.

During the 2021/22 campaign, he averaged 0.9 key passes per game and created six big chances despite only registering three assists. However, if the likes of Gordon, Demarai Gray and Everton’s other wingers are supplying him with quality ball, the 26-year-old could really start to prove his worth.

Lampard is crying out for any striker that he can get, and one with proven Premier League quality and who might be willing to act as an understudy to Calvert-Lewin once the Englishman regain fitness could be the perfect move for all parties involved.

Leeds: Firm interest in Hwang Hee-chan

Leeds United have a firm interest in Hwang Hee-chan but they may need to move an underperforming star on to sign him this week…

What’s the word?

The Express & Star recently confirmed the Whites had expressed they were keen on the Wolverhampton Wanderers attacker and revealed that manager Bruno Lage was keen to keep him.

But now, journalist Alan Nixon of The Sun has provided a further update, claiming that the Yorkshire giants were now facing a battle against Premier League rivals Everton for his signature.

It’s thought that director of football Victor Orta would need to shift Daniel James on if he’s to seal a move for the South Korean sensation, who previously worked under Jesse Marsch at RB Salzburg.

Bye-bye Dan James

The Wales international has certainly struggled since his £25m move from Manchester United last summer and this weekend’s defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion was another cold reminder that he may just not be good enough for a regular spot in the big time.

After being the only attacker to not contribute in the stunning 3-0 win over Chelsea, James was practically anonymous on Saturday, where he managed just an hour before being hooked by Marsch.

As per SofaScore, the 24-year-old managed only seven accurate passes in that time, failed to provide a successful cross or even a shot and lost possession once every 3.8 touches.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-leeds-united-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-more-2″ title=”Read the latest Leeds news, transfer rumours and so much more!”]

It’s no wonder LeedsLive contributor Conor McGilligan dubbed him a “headless chicken” earlier in the week amid shock transfer interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

James is yet to score or assist in 2022/23 and it continues his dire run of form from the back-end of last season, where he failed to score in any of his final 14 appearances – a time where Leeds needed him most as they were in an intense dogfight for top-flight safety.

Hwang has also suffered from an indifferent spell in the big time but under Marsch, he enjoyed his best football.

As per Transfermarkt, the South Korean frontman provided 16 goals and 24 assists across 43 appearances under the American, though he’s yet to translate that into the Premier League, where he has only scored or assisted seven goals.

His 68 career goals far exceed that of the former Swansea City dynamo too (27 goals).

Once described as an “exceptional” player with “brutal dynamism” by his former head coach Peter Zeidler, Hwang could refind that lucrative form by moving to Elland Road to play for a manager that knows him better than anyone else.

The 26-year-old, also dubbed an “exciting talent” by journalist Nathan Judah, could well be the perfect upgrade on James as he’s more capable of leading the line, whilst being equally adept on the wing.

This move is one that just makes sense for Leeds and their manager, so Orta must shift James on and replace him with Hwang before next Thursday’s 11pm deadline.

AND in other news, Sky Sports: Leeds “definitely interested” in 18 y/o gem, he’d be a “smart” 8th signing…

Leeds: Sky Sports drop Hwang update

Leeds United are interested in a deal to bring Hwang Hee-chan to Elland Road this summer.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a report by Sky Sports, who claim that, after Alan Nixon revealed the Whites could target the Wolverhampton Wanderers forward should Tottenham Hotspur firm up their reported interest in a £20m move for Daniel James, Victor Orta is indeed considering launching a move for the 26-year-old in the coming days.

However, while Sky did reveal that the South Korea international would be keen to link up with his former Red Bull Salzburg manager, Jesse Marsch, once again at Elland Road, it is also claimed that Bruno Lage’s side would demand a figure in the region of £25m in order to part with the attacker – considerably more than the £15m Nixon had initially reported.

Marsch’s final piece of the puzzle

While the vast majority of Leeds supporters would likely claim that Leeds still need a new centre-forward and left-back – something Beren Cross backed up in a recent Q&A – in order for Victor Orta to have completed the perfect summer transfer window, with it now looking as if the club are content with deploying Pascal Struijk on the left of their back line, it would appear the signing of a striker could well be the final target on the club’s shortlist this summer.

And, considering Marsch’s previous relationship with Hwang, in addition to the Wolves forward having impressed following his arrival at Molineux last summer, the 26-year-old attacker may just be the 48-year-old’s final piece of the puzzle at Elland Road heading into the bulk of the 2022/23 campaign.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/read-the-latest-leeds-united-news-transfer-rumours-gossip-more-2″ title=”Read the latest Leeds news, transfer rumours and so much more!”]

Indeed, over his 30 Premier League appearances – only 20 of which came as starts – last season, the £17m-rated talent scored five goals, registered one assist and created two big chances for his teammates, a rather impressive feat considering he was playing for a Wolves side who scored just 38 goals last time out – the fourth-worst record in the league.

However, the £19k-per-week winger’s form at RB Salzburg will undoubtedly be the primary reason for Marsch’s interest in the Korean, as Hwang scored a quite astonishing 16 goals and provided 24 assists over his 43 appearances under the American’s management – averaging a simply sensational direct goal involvement every 66 minutes of football played.

Furthermore, with the former RB Leipzig forward being able to operate from attacking midfield, on either flank and as a centre-forward, the 26-year-old’s impressive positional versatility would not only see him be capable of providing the increasingly injury-prone Patrick Bamford with competition for his starting spot up top, he would also give Marsch another wide attacking option.

As such, should Leeds manage to get a £25m deal over the line for Hwang in the coming days, the 47-cap international could well prove to be Marsch’s final piece of the puzzle in the summer transfer window – an outcome that will surely delight the 48-year-old manager.

Leeds: Orta interested in Egan

Leeds United are interested in a deal to bring John Egan to Elland Road over the remainder of the summer transfer window.

What’s the talk?

That’s according to a recent Charlie Parker-Turner report for the Daily Express, in which the journalist claimed that, with Jesse Marsch currently having a number of defenders ruled out as a result of injury, the Whites are looking to bring in greater depth at the back over the coming 24 hours – with the Sheffield United centre-back believed to have been identified as a target by the Premier League side.

The report goes on to state that, with the 29-year-old’s current contract at Bramall Lane set to expire in the summer of 2024, Leeds believe that they stand a good chance of being able to prise the Republic of Ireland international away from the Championship side prior to Thursday’s transfer deadline.

Parker-Turner summed up his report in a post on Twitter, with the journalist stating: “Leeds are interested in signing Sheffield United defender John Egan. There is no bid on the table at this stage though.”

Marsch badly needs him

Considering just how consistent Egan has been for Sheffield United in recent years, coupled with Leeds United’s current centre-back options not exactly boasting the best injury record, it would very much appear as if a player in the 29-year-old’s mould is just the type of player Jesse Marsch needs in his backline.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/leeds-transfer-news-deadline-day-lufc-the-whites-premier-league” title=”Read the latest Leeds news, transfer rumours and so much more!”]

Indeed, over his 46 Championship appearances for the Blades last season – a campaign in which Egan played every available minute – the £6.3m-rated talent highly impressed, helping his side keep 20 clean sheets, in addition to making an average of 1.1 interceptions, 0.9 tackles, 4.0 clearances and winning 5.6 duels – at a success rate of 60% – per game.

The £26k-per-week defender also caught the eye going forwards, scoring two goals, registering two assists and creating three big chances for his teammates, as well as taking an average of 0.9 shots and completing 4.7 long balls per fixture.

These returns saw the player who Oisin Langan dubbed “unreal” average a SofaScore match rating of 7.01, ranking him as United’s seventh-best performer in the second tier of English football last time out.

As such, with Egan quite clearly being extremely solid at the back, a threat when going forwards and an incredibly reliable player to be able to call upon, it would indeed appear as if the 29-year-old is exactly the type of player Marsch would love to welcome to Elland Road this summer – leading us to believe that Orta must do all he can to land the Irishman in the next 24 hours.
