All that momentum he gathered, plus a quick arm action ensured the ball came out at 95.6 kph. Mystery spin at that speed is devastating.Suryakumar had probably picked the googly. Mumbai were only able to hit one boundary between the 11th and the 17th overs but Noor was able to pick up two more wickets, including the other set batter, Tilak Varma, who was unable to pick the googly out of the hand and had no time to read it off the pitch, not when it was onto him at 92kph. That was his average speed in this game. His slowest delivery was still 87 kph. Mystery spin at that pace is devastating. Mumbai were only in control of 58.3% of the shots they played against him. Middlesbrough head coach Rob Edwards is now seen by Wolves as the “favoured candidate” for their managerial vacancy.

Wolves have been on the search for a new boss since Vitor Pereira, who signed a contract extension in September, was sacked on the 2nd November. In the days since, Wolves have been linked with a number of options as they continue searching for a permanent Pereira replacement.

James Collins and Richard Walker, who both work within the youth set-up at Wolves, will take interim charge of the club when they face Chelsea on Saturday. Whoever replaces Pereira will have a momentous task ahead of them, as Wolves sit bottom of the Premier League table with two points from 10 games.

In recent days, Rob Edwards has been linked with the vacancy and despite initial reports that a move appeared unlikely, it would now seem as though Wolves have settled on who they think is the man to try and keep them in the Premier League.

Wolves homing in on Edwards

According to Sky Sports, Wolves view Edwards as their preferred target. Replacing Michael Carrick at Middlesbrough in the summer, Edwards has lost just two Championship games from 14 during his time at the Riverside Stadium thus far.

Prior to his current work, Edwards spent just over two years at Luton Town between 2022 and early 2025, guiding them to the Premier League in his first season at the club.

As a player, Edwards spent four years at Molineux, making over a century of appearances for the Old Gold between 2004 and 2008. To begin his managerial career, he spent time with the club’s youth academy and even had a stint as interim manager of the club back in 2016, later taking charge of their under-23s side.

Generally preferring to play a 3-4-2-1 formation, which could certainly work with Wolves’ current squad, Edwards being the main target is understandable, given both his previous links to the club and his reputation as a coach.

Having been called an “outstanding” manager in the past, it could be argued that, across the 2023/24 and 2024/25 seasons, Edwards’ Luton side were the only one of six promoted teams that had a fighting chance of avoiding immediate relegation, something Wolves, given their current position, have no doubt recognised.

Despite Wolves’ evident interest, however, Sky Sports have also reported that Middlesbrough have “rejected” their advances for Edwards. Understandably, Boro are keen to keep the 42-year-old, who has given them the hopes of making a promotion push.

Romano offers update on future Wolves appointments

Dodgers two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani may be adding another job description to his resume this October.

Speaking to reporters after the Dodgers' 9-6 loss to the Phillies Tuesday, Ohtani said the club has had conversations about potentially deploying him as a relief pitcher in the postseason. And he's open to playing the outfield.

"I’ve had different conversations with different people, and of course that’s come up," Ohtani told Japanese reporters, according to MLB.com.

Utilizing Ohtani as a reliever makes sense. He has not yet pitched longer than five innings in a start, as the Dodgers have managed his workload in his first season on the mound since undergoing elbow surgery in September 2023. He's already equipped to handle a lighter innings load. Plus, Ohtani's electric swing-and-miss stuff would be a boon to the Dodgers' leaky bullpen. However, using Ohtani as a reliever would result in the Dodgers encountering an obstacle in the MLB rulebook.

The Ohtani rule, which was first implemented in 2022 with the two-way star in mind, states that if the starting pitcher is also in the lineup as the designated hitter, then that player can remain as the DH even if he is removed as a pitcher. Under the previous rules, if the starting pitcher was also in the lineup, the DH spot was forfeited and his spot in the batting order was taken up by the relief pitcher when he left the game. So essentially, if Ohtani started a playoff game as the DH, then entered in relief, the Dodgers would lose the DH spot after his pitching appearance concluded.

One possible way around this? Having Ohtani play the outfield, as he mentioned to reporters. Ohtani once starred for the Hokkaido Nippon-Ham Fighters of the Nippon Professional Baseball League as an outfielder, recording 90 putouts, seven assists and just one error in 62 career games in the outfield. However, he has appeared in the outfield in just 8 1/3 career innings in the majors, and hasn't done so since the 2021 season with the Angels.

He also has yet to appear as a reliever during his MLB career.

"He’s a great teammate," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. "He wants to help us win a championship. So, I’m all about it. I don’t know if it’s going to happen," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said of Ohtani potentially playing in the outfield. "He hasn’t played the outfield. But I appreciate the fact that he’s open to whatever we need. So, I don’t know how that looks though. He hasn’t taken a fly ball all year."

It will be interesting to see if this is a path the Dodgers go down with the three-time MVP come October.

They say form goes out of the window for a derby, but Arsenal proved that to be entirely untrue on Sunday afternoon.

Mikel Arteta’s side played host to Tottenham Hotspur, and instead of wilting under the pressure, they made the most of Liverpool and Manchester City dropping points by demolishing their bitter rivals.

The gulf in class was so vast that it looked like the Gunners were playing a League One side, and summer signing Eberechi Eze, who almost moved to the white side of North London, was unplayable.

The Englishman was untouchable from the first minute to the last, and therefore, fans should be delighted that Arsenal are already brewing a homegrown version of him.

While it was a joke, Thomas Frank must regret asking “who” when asked a question about Eze in the buildup to the game, as while the entire Arsenal team played well, the former Crystal Palace star was nothing short of spectacular.

It almost felt as if the Englishman was on a mission to make the Spurs boss eat his words, as just three minutes in, he played an exceptional ball over the top that Declan Rice should have finished.

Then, 39 minutes later, with the Gunners already a goal to the good, he added a second thanks to some tidy footwork and a low-driven shot.

Just 30 seconds into the second half, the 27-year-old scored his second goal, once again driving the ball into the bottom corner, only this time with his weaker foot.

Now, for most players, a derby-day brace is more than they could even dream of, but the Greenwich-born maestro is not like most players, and in the 76th minute, he scored a third to make it 4-1.

It’s the first time a player has scored a hat-trick in the North London derby since Alan Sunderland in December 1978.

Overall, it would be fair to say Sunday’s game will always be remembered as the Eze derby, and should act as a springboard for the midfielder to really kick on this season.

And in more good news, the club might already have another homegrown version of the international ace brewing.

Yes, while the 18-year-old might not develop to be just like the former Crystal Palace star, there are some unmistakable similarities.

For example, the Hale End gem is an incredibly skilful player who can and has played out wide, but is ultimately seen as someone who will develop into a sensational number ten.

Moreover, while he hasn’t been getting the minutes that so many expected or hoped he would this year, he’s still very young with plenty of time to develop and even then, he proved how talented he is last season.

For example, the “phenomenal” prospect, as dubbed by former professional Stephen Warnock, scored nine goals and provided two assists in 37 appearances, totalling 1378 minutes.

That works out to a goal involvement every 3.36 games, or more crucially, one every 125.27 minutes, which would be incredibly impressive if he were a seasoned professional and helps to justify Joe Cole’s claim that “he’s the most exciting footballer in England and maybe Europe.”

Finally, on top of his output, the Enfield-born gem put up some sensational underlying numbers last year.

According to FBref, he ranked in the top 2% of attacking midfielders and wingers in the Premier League for successful take-ons, the top 6% for total carrying distance, the top 8% for crosses and more, all per 90.

Ultimately, while he is still so young, Nwaneri’s ability to play out wide and as a ten, combined with his output and technical ability, means he could be Arsenal’s next Eze.

Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi has come to Mason Greenwood's defence, calling him “a good person” and expressing sadness over the player's controversial past. Greenwood’s resurgence meets renewed attention

Since arriving in France, Greenwood has rebuilt his rhythm, his confidence, and his role within the squad. Despite occasional criticism for inconsistency, this season has been his most complete. His brace in a 5-1 win against Nice at the weekend was the latest reminder of why he was once considered one of England’s brightest prospects.

Yet his form also brings back the attention he has tried to escape. English journalists, set to meet him again at the Velodrome when Marseille face Newcastle in the Champions League, continue to anchor him to his past – one marked by allegations of attempted rape and assault in 2022. It saddens me what happened to him because I know a very different person from the one portrayed in England.”

After Greenwood's charges were dropped in 2023, Manchester United publicly acknowledged that he had “made mistakes” but also admitted that the evidence did not warrant contract termination. Still, the club’s internal and external pressures made his return impossible. Getafe offered a temporary restart. Marseille, finally, provided a permanent one.

Greenwood's future as an England international

Inside Marseille, Greenwood is seen as a respectful, hard-working presence, far from the public image that continues to follow him.

“It all depends on the environment he's given. He's a really nice guy… when he's on the pitch, he's having fun. As a friend, it's even nicer," says teammate Angel Gomes.

But away from club football, Greenwood’s future is far less clear.

According to reports in England, after rediscovering his form in France, Greenwood still hopes to play for the Three Lions again, even though he has effectively been blacklisted by the FA and Thomas Tuchel. With only months to go before the 2026 World Cup, that dream appears out of reach, yet those close to him say he still believes it’s possible.

He does, however, have another option. Greenwood has obtained Jamaican citizenship through his family roots and was recently approached by Jamaica boss Steve McClaren for World Cup qualifiers. McClaren, though, was unable to reach the Marseille forward and has since left his role as head coach.

Greenwood’s revival in Marseille has been astonishing. Last season, he scored 21 league goals and assisted six, finishing joint top scorer in Ligue 1. His contributions earned Marseille 16 points directly and helped push the club back into the Champions League.

From a footballing standpoint, he has done everything asked of him. But reputation is not rebuilt at the same pace as sporting form. Even after United admitting to their mistake. And yet, hostility, particularly from English fanbases, has followed him across borders with social media abuse, chants, scrutiny in stadiums, a constant reliving of a story from which the legal system has already moved on.

With the Dodgers facing elimination as they trail the Blue Jays 3-2 in the World Series, Los Angeles understandably isn’t closing any doors for its two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani.

He started the Game 4 loss at Dodger Stadium, throwing six innings and 93 pitches while letting up four earned runs after the Dodgers’ incredible win in the marathon Game 3 which lasted 18 innings. As the Fall Classic heads back to Toronto, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts is leaving everything on the table for Ohtani as their season hangs in the balance.

“We’d consider everything,” Roberts said when asked about his plan for Ohtani in the rest of the series. “It’s more of just doing whatever we can to get through [Game 6] tomorrow and pick up the pieces and then see what’s the best way to attack a potential Game 7. So everything should be on the table and will be for sure.”

The Dodgers skipper spoke to the possibility of Ohtani being available in relief for Game 6, noting the team will see how Ohtani comes in on the day of, but they have to have those conversations as they face elimination. Yoshinobu Yamamoto will get the ball to start Friday’s Game 6 for L.A.

Roberts maintains a wide-open plan for Ohtani the rest of the way, even the potential of playing the outfield. If the two-way star were to pitch in relief, the Dodgers would lose their designated hitter once Ohtani’s appearance ends based on Major League Baseball’s two-way player rule, per MLB.com’s Sonja Chen. Ohtani is able to stay in the game as DH if he starts the game on the mound. Putting Ohtani in the field is a way the Dodgers can work around that risk.

“We’ll talk about everything,” Roberts said on Ohtani playing outfield. “We’ll talk through whatever’s the best. If we get to that point, we’ll see, but he’s not going to play the outfield [in Game 6], I do know that. But, if we get to Game 7, we’ll have a good discussion about everything.”

They have won 17 T20Is to the 12 they’ve lost in 2025. That run includes making it to the final of the Asia Cup, and beating South Africa 2-1 in their most-recent T20I series. Under the leadership of Salman Agha, the batting has had a little more purpose, even if it is the bowling that has tended to win Pakistan games.In that series against South Africa, for example, the bowlers had restricted the visitors to feeble scores twice. Still, the chases were largely smooth, and Pakistan’s two victories were comfortable. The generally-preferred strategy seems to be to put the opposition in, and try to blow them away cheaply.Related

And Wanindu Hasaranga’s decent batting form will also help add some depth, provided Hasaranga recovers for the tri-series. Sri Lanka have drafted in legspinner Vijayakanth Viyaskanth as cover on the eve of the tournament, but hope Hasaranga recovers to feature in the competition.Zimbabwe haven’t had quite so hot a year. But at least, unlike for the 2024 World Cup, they have bossed the Africa qualifier, and earned themselves a spot in the big show. And it was in that qualifier – played entirely in Harare – that they made their most impressive run of 2025, picking up five successive victories, including in the final against Namibia, who have also qualified for the World Cup.Zimbabwe recently beat Sri Lanka in a T20I•Zimbabwe CricketPakistan and Sri Lanka will likely pose a much sterner challenge than the lower-ranked teams Zimbabwe played in Harare, though, and they are just coming off a 3-0 loss to Afghanistan. Manchester United coach Ruben Amorim has been warned by Patrice Evra that missing out on Champions League football would be regarded as a failure. United failed to qualify for Europe's elite competition for successive seasons for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013 and Evra highlighted the importance of getting back into it, both financially and in terms of prestige.

United counting the cost of not being in Champions League

A record six English teams are participating in this season's Champions League although United are not among them, having lost the Europa League final to Tottenham and finishing in 15th in the Premier League. United missed out on an estimated £100m ($133m) in lost earnings by failing to reach the Champions League while the players also saw their salaries reduced due to not participating in the lucrative competition.

United have a massive advantage on their competitors as they have no European football to distract them while their early exit from the Carabao Cup has given them a week's rest between league matches. They have not made the most of that advantage, having won seven of their 15 matches this season. In the words of Amorim, they should have more points than the 25 they have picked up so far.

Despite their inconsistent results, United are sixth in the Premier League table, just one point behind fourth-placed Crystal Palace in fourth. And there is a strong possibility that finishing fifth in the English top flight will be enough to qualify for the Champions League again.

"Under the previous manager, we won the FA Cup and EFL Cup, but you lose a lot by not being in the Champions League," Evra told GOAL via . "It’s going to be tough. You’ve got Arsenal, City, Chelsea and Aston Villa giving it a real go. If United do not finish in the top four then it'll be a massive disappointment – a failure. 

"When I played for United, the goal was winning four trophies per season and now we’re talking about qualifying for the Champions League. Our wages went down by 30 per cent if we didn’t qualify for the Champions League, but we never had that issue."

Evra still backing Amorim

Evra, a five-time Premier League and one-time Champions League winner during his nine-year spell at United, is still supportive of Amorim despite the team's unconvincing results. He believes the Portuguese has made personal sacrifices in the team's best interests and he thinks he should remain in charge.

The Frenchman said: "Even in the bad times, I trust him. He's someone right now who will die for the club. That's my feeling with Amorin. This is someone who really puts the club first before himself and compared to some previous managers, I feel like he is different, but he needs maybe more players.  

"Watching United, I have to be honest, it's like playing roulette. You never know what you're going to get. One moment you're going to win, the next time you're going to lose. So you can never predict a result when United play. I need more consistency from United. I want to see a more consistent starting 11. This is getting a little bit better and the players maybe understand his philosophy, his system more. I feel Amorim has the full support of the board and that’s really important. It could be a surprise end to the season with a top four finish."

United will be hoping to follow up their win over Wolves with another victory when they welcome Bournemouth to Old Trafford on Monday. The Red Devils have fared badly against the Cherries in recent years. They were thrashed 3-0 by Andoni Iraola's side at Old Trafford in December 2024 and 2023, while they have drawn their last two visits to the Vitality Stadium. Bournemouth made a strong start to the season but are in the midst of a miserable patch of results, losing four and drawing two of their last six games to sink to 13th in the standings ahead of their trip to Manchester.

Liverpool’s disastrous run in the Premier League this season has shown no signs of coming to an end in recent weeks, with the showing against Sunderland once again highlighting their frailties.

Arne Slot’s men were only able to secure a point against the newly promoted outfit at Anfield, something which would have been a crazy statement during the title-winning season.

The drop-off has been astronomical from this time last season, with the Reds now already sitting 11 points off the summit despite playing just 14 league matches.

Wednesday’s clash against the Black Cats further showcased the creative struggles within Slot’s side, with Florian Wirtz’s deflected effort just one of four shots on target during the 90-minute display.

The performances of numerous Reds players no doubt contributed to the failure to secure all three points on Merseyside for the third straight home league outing.

Liverpool’s poor performers against Sunderland

During Wednesday’s draw with the Black Cats, winger Cody Gakpo had yet another performance to forget, with his lack of impact resulting in a half-time withdrawal.

The Dutchman only managed to complete a total of seven passes against Regis Le Bris’ men, with none of his being made into the final third – subsequently highlighting his lack of creativity in attacking areas.

The 26-year-old was also only able to register a singular effort on goal, but it didn’t trouble the opposition goalkeeper – with his substitution at the break certainly warranted.

Joe Gomez was once again asked to operate in an unnatural right-back role due to the injuries to Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong, but he was massively dominated by the visitors prior to his substitution.

The Englishman entered nine duels during his 65-minute showing, but only managed to come out on top in one of them, resulting in a measly 11% success rate.

He also got dribbled past twice whilst also only completing 20% of the crosses he attempted, highlighting how lacklustre at both ends of the pitch on Merseyside.

Liverpool star is becoming a big problem

The decline of Liverpool in 2025/26 is certainly something to behold, especially after winning the Premier League title under Slot not even seven months ago.

After securing the club’s Premier League title, the Dutchman spent £440m within the transfer market during the summer, but numerous of the big-money additions have so far failed to deliver.

Wirtz’s effort eventually went down as a Nordi Mukiele own goal, which has extended his goalless run, with the German now without a goal in any of his 13 league outings this campaign.

Milos Kerkez has struggled to dislodge Andy Robertson from the starting left-back role, while Frimpong has struggled with injuries and has subsequently been restricted to just four league outings.

Alexander Isak was the most expensive of the summer arrivals, as the Swedish international joined the club in an English-record £125m transfer from Newcastle United.

He no doubt arrived at Anfield with high expectations given such a transfer fee, but also due to his goal tally, which saw him net 23 league goals last campaign.

The striker’s spell on Merseyside to date has been nothing short of a disaster, with the 26-year-old scoring his first league goal at West Ham United last weekend at the sixth time of asking.

As a result, Isak was handed another start against Sunderland last night, but he was once again unable to deliver despite the faith shown in him by the manager.

He featured for 86 minutes of the contest, but could only complete a measly tally of two passes, whilst also losing possession of the ball on three separate occasions.

The Swede was largely dominated by the opposition at Anfield, as shown by his duels won tally, with the forward winning just one out of a possible six battles that he entered.

He was once again unable to register a shot on target, whilst managing just two touches in the opposition box – subsequently unable to get on the scoresheet once again.

To top off his disappointing display, Isak only registered a total of 14 touches on Merseyside, a tally fewer than goalkeeper Alisson, who managed to notch a total of 34.

As a result of his showing against the Black Cats, the striker was handed a measly 5/10 match rating by the Liverpool Echo, further showcasing his struggles after his big-money move.

After such a showing, there’s no doubt that Slot must drop the forward at the weekend, with Hugo Ekitiké needing the chance to start at the top end of the pitch again.

Just one goal in his first seven league games is nothing short of embarrassing, with the record addition desperately needing to find form to kickstart his Reds career.
